Spring Arrives on Gossamer Wings

Something is definitely in the wind. When Karl Lagerfeld announces at the showing of his Chanel Couture Collection for Spring 2010 that there is not one gold button in sight, you begin to see spring in a whole new light.

Light it is. Delicate. Gossamer. And, wait a minute, silvery. There is a silvery sheen to everything. Lace is drenched with it. Transparencies reveal the slightest hint of it. Crystals and beading sparkle with it. And if there’s not something silvery on top, you can bet there is something silvery beneath. Just releasing a slight little glow.

What you’ll see here is how Couture sees it. The crème de la crème of fashion. But what does that mean to you?

First. Go a bit paler this spring. Pastels abound. You’ve probably got some in your closet already, but if you are in the mood for new, do look at lilac, mint, and even peach. The first two are fabulous with silver hair. But peach can work, too, if you tone it with something silver.

Next. Think sheer and shine. If you have a lace or chiffon jacket, underscore it with a pretty pastel. Or something silvery. An iridescent tank top, a silver sequined tank top.

Next. Play metallics cool. If you have anything metallic, get it out again. But this time, tone it down a notch with pale pastels. Think pink, rose. Try a pale chiffon scarf at the neck.

Next. Upgrade jeans and tees. If you’re just a tee shirt and jeans gal, look for jeans with a little metallic in them. Or a tee shirt with some sparkly touches. Don’t mix both. One shot of shine is enough.

Finally. Polish up accessories. Look to see if you can add a silver streak to accessories. A great silver belt. A silver shoe.
