Here’s your spot! For all you gals who are going cold turkey. Naturally, you could join the Skunk Club, too, but a cold turkey is a unique bird, subject to the most obvious kind of “hair stares,” feelings of doubt, impatience and longing. Join the club! Come here and gobble about it.

Yeah, I like it that he has a hat on - obviously covering his roots!
Posted by on 02/16 at 05:36 AM
Love the picture and the new forum! Count me in as a member in good standing! Cold, cold turkey for me!
Posted by on 02/16 at 05:41 AM
This is GREAT!! Hats, hats, and more hats, that’s how I dealt with going “Cold Turkey!” I am still wearing my hats in fact, I love them!
Posted by on 02/16 at 07:00 AM
Can I join as a cold turkey alum?!
Nadine
P.S. I LOVE the turkey pic too!
Posted by on 02/16 at 07:02 AM
lulubell...I hope you don’t need the hats for the cold! Has it warmed up a little at least?
I hope you don’t mind if I direct all the newbie cold turkey gals to your photo in Alums 08 with all the little orange-ended pony tails. That has to be the best cold turkey photo ever
! If you haven’t seen the photo that I am talking about you have to go check it out now and then go check out lulubell’s updated pics in the Members Album (make sure you click on her bio to see her how great how pony tail looks now - all long and fully transitioned!).

I’m having fully-transitioned hair dreams LOL Couldn’t believe it; actually had a hair compliment today! Guess I can get through this after all.

Count me in as well as a cold member (it’s snowing again in Ohio) in the cold turkey club. It’s the only way for me to go and I realized that the day I tried a little highlighting and how easy would be to just cover it all. I joined GGLG that night and all the support is pulling me forward.Maybe with a push now and then! I join CherokeeGirl in a chorus of gobble gobble..ha!
Posted by on 02/16 at 07:58 AM
Definitely going cold turkey. Have actually become scared of haircolor.
Posted by on 02/16 at 08:07 AM
I guess sooner or later we all become members of the cold turkey club. It’s the only way to graduate. Come to think of it you would have to belong to cold turkey before you could belong to skunk club.
Posted by on 02/16 at 08:13 AM
Count me in! I’m full of doubt, impatience, & longing!! It helps that I’m tall -not too many stares… ‘cause they can’t see the top of my head!!
Posted by on 02/16 at 09:14 AM
Can’t believe we’ve actually got a cold turkey club-love it!
My friend who keeps trying to give me highlights says she’se resigned to me being a ‘silver fox’,but I don’t want to bring any more livestock into the equation!
BTW Lulubell-lovely to hear from you, hope you are not too cold!

Love the response our Cold Turkey Club has been getting!
By all means, alums (who went cold turkey) can be a part of it. We need cheerleaders!
It’s not true that everyone has to go cold turkey—think of those who chose to go the highlight route. Just as valid. And, yes, we’re all gonna have a skunk stripe, even the highlighters. It will just be a bit less noticeable. But trust me, that’s always an issue. So here’s the deal—Cold Turkey Club for gals and alums who have cold turkeyed. Skunk Club for gals and alums who have highlighted, but still have a Skunk stripe. Fair enough?
This is really a covert attempt to break up the LONG Newbies ‘10 chat, growing at leaps and bounds. We’ll be outta room before you know it.
Since we all have different ways of reaching our goal, we should be in different chats. And then, we can always come together in Newbies ‘10 when we want to comment on someone’s progress. It’s a plan!

"In Praise of Freezing Fowl”
It was a big decision for us to start,
But all the time we knew in our heart,
That this was our way to express who we are,
Even knowing that our goal was afar.
It took awhile for us to do it,
Our silvers are coming in, bit by bit.
We wouldn’t have done it any other way,
No matter what anyone else had to say.
Going gray and looking great,
It’s all about our graduation date.
Some of us have made it of course that’s true,
And the rest of us are gaining, right behind you.
And when we get there you know it will mean,
We’ll get our diplomas from our great OZ, our dean.
The journey’s been difficult at times that’s for sure,
But it’s never, ever been for us, a bore.
As we approach our inner and outer silver foxes,
We’ve all thought outside our personal boxes.
In conclusion I really must say,
Better to be a turkey than a chicken, any ol’ day.
I’m no poet,
And I know it.
Barbara

Barbara, you are a poet! And I just love the last line (we certainly are not chickens!). I vote for it to be our GGLG anthem

Fantastic poem Barbara, cheered me up!- and Diana, going cold turkey is such a good description of our process! I know I will never color again, and thanks to all the support here, I have been able to face up to endless critical remarks the last months. Yes, one inspiration was actually Lulubells ponytails! I thought if you can walk around with that, so can I! Thank you for posting your photo Lulubell! Today you look fantastic, and I’m finally at a stage where people ask whether I have had highlights put in
I’ve even had 2 compliments, what a milestone! Greetings to you all from Sleepless in Brussels (due to the Olympic Wintergames)

Diana....I so appreciate your humor!
I’m in the club for sure! Barbara, thanks for the poignant poem
. This cold turkey is freezing.....can’t wait for spring and all the new growth(pun intended)!

Me too, add me to the Cold Turkeys list! I was a 2 stepper, had permanent brown and blonde highlights, so I will have the silver stripe next to brown and then the blonde, but I am done with the process!
And its freezing here in SW Florida, what is going on??

oh ps....is this turkey going to change his feathers??? he CAN NOT freeze in july...oz…
Posted by on 02/16 at 06:57 PM
I do remember that song, Louann! As it turns out those days never really end, they just keep evolving, much like our hair!
Posted by on 02/16 at 07:11 PM
Louann—a cold turkey is a cold turkey. Whatever the season! No change of feathers, but maybe he should be wearing a beach hat. Any artists out there? Let’s see a COLD turkey in a beach hat for summer!
