How lovely to see so many great greys gathered in one place
Posted by on 01/25 at 02:43 AM
The SoCal gals had their second Silver Sisters Event, and even held a pre-event breakfast to start the whole day off. Now that’s a first! Because some Members had to leave early, a breakfast was planned at Gladstone’s. Just inches away from – you guessed it – the beach. Huge platters arrived bearing breakfasts, and as they ate, they talked about changing hair colors, the pop that just the right shade can give a look, who is going to New York in June and laughed the whole time.
OK, you’ll all feel bad – the weather was glorious, 78º and sunny.
Malibu has probably never seen so many pretty shades of gray.
Just a quick pit stop before heading off. Maybe a little reminder from OZ?
Next it was time to get to the Getty. The Getty Villa to be precise. It’s called a villa because it is a replica of a first century Roman country house, the Villa dei Papiri in Herculaneum, Italy. .
Gorgeous architecture, breathtaking grounds, a perfect mini-vacation!
Meeting up at the Getty, Members, as well as sisters and cousins and aunts, oh my!
Suzanne and Jennifer share a sunny, silvery moment.
Laura knows this-a-way from that-a-way, but which way do we go?
Just take a step through this wonderful door and explore!
Yup, the Silver Sisters are definitely not in Kansas anymore.
Casing the joint: Cheri, Karen, and new Newbie Patrice find something intriguing.
While Louann channels her inner gray goddess.
In fact, there were goddesses and Etruscan ladies everywhere, unafraid to show their gray or white hair! Do you think they were ahead of trend in their time, too?
The day was drawing to a close, and the Silver Sisters didn’t want it to end, but there was just time to pose for the official hat shot. There’s another event in the planning already (maybe two!), and they promised, as their governator says, "We’ll be back!"
Front row: Cheri (SoCal Silver), Jennifer (Runner), Louann (formerly lainla).
Second row: Patrice (Patrice), Laura (RunnerGal), Karen (SBKaren)
Missing: Suzanne (grayincali), Jade (jadejou)

Just wanted to get this up ASAP!

Oh and I never sent you my comments....but it looks like you received enough from everyone else (last week was a busy, tough week for me). It was a grand time. I’ve never felt so comfortable with a group of folks I have never met in person before. We sat at the table and just started gabbing away. Chit-chatting back and forth on this site truly helped to make it feel as if I had already met everyone. The weather for the day could not have been any better - and the company - well what else can I say! It was the best! I’d do it again in a heartbeat!
Posted by on 01/25 at 08:02 AM
well then i guess we will have to plan event # 3!!!
we did have a great time and the weather was perfect as was the company!!
this particular getty is the perfect place to go if you want to “pretend” you are in Italy....(closer and cheaper)

I’ll start this off with a big smile! This captures the day beautifully! Thanks Diana!! What a great time we had .... so much so we are already looking forward to the next gathering!
Posted by on 01/25 at 08:42 AM
Great pictures! I really enjoyed the warm weather and sunshine! Even if it was only in pictures!
You all look wonderfully, silver!

Great pics and stories of your day. What a big group! Thanks for sharing. :o)

As always, you ladies look gorgeous!
Posted by on 01/25 at 12:16 PM
I feel a huge lump in my throat right now. Seeing all of you together almost brought a tear to my eye. I am in awe of what GGLG has accomplished in such a short time. Diana, can you believe this?? Such warm, wonderful friendships are being formed right before our very eyes! It isn’t just about the hair, it is about women, strong women, who have taken it upon themselves to break the mould and embrace life in all of their “natural glory!” I would have LOVED to be there and be a part of all of the chatter and laughter that must have taken place. Louann, you are just as I have envisioned!!! You are so full of life and I am sure you were the life and laughter of the party!! New York in June will be the icing on the cake, I can’t wait!!
Posted by on 01/25 at 03:08 PM
Now you went and did it, Lulubell. You brought a lump to my throat, too. Truth to tell, no, I can’t quite believe this. I felt sure we would have lots of chat. I had no idea such friendships would form.

I’d like to add to that also .... a couple of the ladies, my aunt and myself discussed the initial feelings of silliness I had over getting together with a group of women what in the beginning seemed to me to be over nothing more than the subject of hair. There are the questions I had like, who are these ladies, are they nice people, should I meet with someone I’ve only chatted with over the internet, etc.
But my aunt kindly reminded me that it truly does take a special, down-to-earth kind of woman to go against the grain and embrace her natural beauty, which in this case is silvering hair. I found this to be ABSOLUTELY true in every way! Everyone is SO nice and special in their own right, as Diana mentioned above. I feel really proud and excited to be a part of a movement that will continue to grow and flourish. It’s SOOOO cool, Diana, what you have started here and we all thank you very much!

Stop, stop! I’m sniffling and snuffling. But, ya know, when you think “support group,” you always think of people maybe in trouble. People going through some emotional crisis. But that isn’t what’s happening here. You’re right, Suzanne, we have a bunch of strong, fun, individuals who know their own mind, know what they want, and know to say the right words at the right time to give others a little encouragement. It IS cool!
Posted by on 01/25 at 03:36 PM
Typo city there .... sorry!
Hopefully you get my point in spite of my bad grammar (like my aunt and I, not myself) and omitted words! Boy, I wish spell check would correct everything!!!!!
Posted by on 01/25 at 03:36 PM
I don’t know, Diana… I had an emotional crises a time or two during transition. :o)
Seriously, we Texas girls had the same strong connection. Going gray was my only goal, but this site and all of the wonderful silver sisters has been an added surprise.
Posted by on 01/25 at 04:02 PM
Oh, well, let’s see if we can offer a 7-step program for crisis control. Or is that a 10-step program?
So what about those Texas gals getting together one more time before you move, greeneyes? You gonna let California get ahead of you?
Posted by on 01/25 at 04:15 PM
Hi Diana - did the second photo come through?
I’m using my fiance’s MAC, and I am a PC gal, so I may have done something incorrectly in attaching 2 photos
Posted by on 01/25 at 04:20 PM
RuffDiamond—you’re already in!
Posted by on 01/25 at 04:23 PM
LOL ... you work FAST!!!!!
Compared to my long hair photo, I look like a “pretty boy” ... hehehehehe
Posted by on 01/25 at 04:29 PM
RuffDiamond,
I hate to correct a fellow GGer but it’s “Boy, pretty!”
Posted by on 01/25 at 04:42 PM
Diana - No! We cannot let the CA girls get ahead of us! :o) And our move may be coming more quickly than expected. It’s yet to be seen, but my husband may have secured a different job than previously planned. Oh, but who knows! Our house is not on the market yet. Stressful. :o) Maybe I’ll get some more white hair!
Posted by on 01/25 at 04:43 PM
LOL, thanks Mary .. like most of you, I feel more feminine with long hair.
Posted by on 01/25 at 04:51 PM
What a nice get together and the weather, oh my! looks heavenly. It’s great to see so many people join in, Diana. I know there are many more out there going gray on their own (how hard!), or just reading and not joining in (jump in, you’ll like it!). Anyway, congratulations Diana!!!
Posted by on 01/25 at 05:48 PM

I loved looking at these pictures. How fun it must have been. You all look beautiful!
Posted by on 01/25 at 07:44 PM
So much fun! Beautiful place, beautiful weather, and beautiful silver sisters. Great job girls, I can’t wait to attend an event here in TX.
Posted by on 01/25 at 08:21 PM
Ooops—did I hear Texas again? Marisa, get talking with your “Silver Roses” by PM’s and start the ball rolling! Looks like greeneyes may be getting out of Dodge faster than y’all think!
Posted by on 01/26 at 07:21 AM
I wish I had more time to organize an event but right now I have a few too many commitments, add in two hormonal teenage boys and me trying to get and keep business in this economy then toss in a stressed out hubby and what you have is a reality show gone amok. Actually it’s not THAT bad but that’s because I’m doing my best to STAY CALM!
But, I wouldn’t mind helping someone co-host a TX event…
the Hill Country is beautiful in the spring hint, hint.
Posted by on 01/26 at 09:05 AM
You all look so great!!! I am so bummed I missed the day
dog gone bug that’s going around. Determined to make the next one, cause it seems I missed a wonderful time and a great museum and I know where ever we decide to go next will be just as much fun and will include maybe even more Silver Sisters.
Posted by on 01/26 at 09:26 AM
Diana, Thanks for posting all of this. It’s fun to re-live it! Can’t wait for our next event!!!
Posted by on 01/26 at 10:22 AM
Ruffdiamond - oh what an adorable, cute, stylish, great cut! Cute boy? Nah - beautiful woman!!! Looks great!
louann - I love the way you described us above. Most of the friends I have now WERE met that way - through school, or scouts, teams or kids - but never because it was something that I had in common with someone.
I still have many of those friends, so of course we did find things in common - but it’s been a while that the reason I made new friends or gathered together was because of a common bond I had with others...and I LIKE it!
Posted by on 01/26 at 01:17 PM
SBKaren ... oh, thank you for the lovely compliment
I just wish I could see myself with your eyes
Posted by on 01/26 at 01:55 PM
Then come on over here Ruff! We are the hardest on ourselves....so back off - you are a beautiful woman with an adorable cut - it’s just different!
Change is hard for everyone!!! But THAT was a good change!
Posted by on 01/26 at 05:25 PM
SBKaren ....awwwwwww, tuff love ! Thanks, I needed that ... hehehehe
Posted by on 01/27 at 05:37 AM

hey ruffy...stop being so RUFF on yourself!!! if we say you look great WE MEAN it!!! besides i am the QUEEN of impatience...and i managed to get thru this (thanks mostly to all of you out there in cyberland) absolutely UNSCATHED !!!it has been the most fun thing ever!! especially when one is happy with the END RESULT !!!
Posted by on 01/27 at 08:11 AM
LOL ... thanks Louann ... I know you all right ... I’m at the VERY BEGINNING of all this.
You ladies have been there, done that ... I just need to LISTEN to all of you ... and chill !!!!
Posted by on 01/27 at 08:33 AM
Louann, is the unemployed college grad at least doing his part around the house? After several warnings to my 15 year old - not to ask for laundry (one special shirt or jeans, you’ve all heard that before, I’m sure) at 10 pm and then have a hissy at me for not jumping to it. We both decided it was time for him to do his own laundry. The first night he waited until 10 and grumbled the whole time, the next time he did it earlier but still grumbled, this last time he asked me if I was going to do his laundry. I said that I hadn’t heard an appology yet and he told me he wasn’t going to beg. Can we say “PRIDE”? It’s hard as a mom, wanting to do things for a child but knowing when it’s time for them to start stretching their wings and needing to force them a bit. No, I’m not kicking him out. I see my job as preparing him for when it’s time but he’s kicking and screaming the whole way! My parents did have to finally kick my brother out WHEN HE WAS 31! Because he wouldn’t at least do his part around the house.
Okay, blah, blah, blah, sorry about that.
My hubby’s stress comes from previously dealing with Enron and now Liondell. Enron was a major client and Liondell is a major client, of course the situation isn’t quite the same but it still hurts the wallet. The good thing is we know how to survive! Blah again!
Yay for the interview, may it bear fruit $$$.
Speaking of, off I go again.
Marisa (one “s” please)

Wow-it is too cool to see these beautiful women--whose pictures I’ve seen separately on the site--all together in one place.
I really enjoyed meeting Lulubell a few months back and maybe in a while there’ll be some other Ontarians on board (I must start passing out my cards--I’ve been practically in hibernation during this particularly snowy and cold Canadian winter!
Posted by on 01/27 at 01:28 PM
You ladies look terrific! What a fun get-together/reunion.
Posted by on 01/27 at 04:29 PM
That was truly a great day. So excited for the next time we get together. I was telling everyone at work about the wonderful, delightful women that are part of this group. Trying to get other silver ladies to join up. It is absolutely amazing!! Love it!

Lullubell, you expressed it so well. I thought it was my peri-menopause acting up or something. I actually got teary-eyed seeing pictures of the women who are great contributors to this message board all together in one place. Makes me wish I lived in California! You ladies are all the inspiration I need. Must get a tissue...........
Posted by on 01/30 at 02:34 PM
You guys look great!! Looks like you all had a lot of fun.
Posted by on 02/02 at 12:35 PM
Hello Ladies,
How do I find out about southern California events? I live in the area and am a newbie. Thank you so much.
Posted by on 02/09 at 03:06 PM
Hi Silvermane2b, and welcome! If you go to the Members Album, you can click on SoCalSilver’s link (in blue) and send her a PM to start the ball rolling.
Do you know how to find the Members Album?
1. Go to the homepage
2. At the right, you will see Members Login/Register
3. Click on login, even if you are already logged in
4. Fill in what it asks
5. You will be redirected to the homepage, and now you will see Members Your Account/Logout/Members Album
6. Click on Members Album, and you’re there!
This is a great group of gals, and I’m sure you’d have a lot of fun at their next “outing.”
