Silver Sisters Meets
Silver Sisters Meets
We're starting fresh! There have been plenty of Meets in the talking stages, but we're going to show only the ones that are "close" to happening. Whether it's a mini meet or a bigger deal, Silver Sisters like to unite with other women who are going through all the joys, trials, and triumphs of going natural. To gab about products. Share hair care secrets. Make new friends. And we know it's fun because several groups have had multiple events. Check out all the fun times the gals in Colorado, California, Texas, Pennsylvania, Canada, Massachusetts, and New Jersey have had in this section. It's truly a great opportunity meet the women you've been chatting with here at GGLG!
And it's easy to join in the fun. Find your locale, and "team leader." Then go to the Members Album and send her a PM to let her know you're interested in joining the festivities. Just click on the link beside the picture, and off you'll go to her Profile page. Hit the PM button, and send her a message, titled Get Together.
Team Leader: OZ. It's time for the Silver Sisters to get together! All of us! For a fun-filled weekend in Las Vegas. What are you doing the first weekend in October? Come Friday, October 1st for an opening reception. Learn some wonderful things on Saturday morning. Play Saturday afternoon and evening. Sit by the pool. Shop. Try your luck with Lady Luck. And on Sunday, be front row center for a Steven Diamond radio taping where you will get to participate! Meet new friends like Cindy Joseph and others. It's going to be a blast. We need numbers, natch. The only way to get great room discounts. So right now -- THIS WEEK -- please let us know if you are interested, so I can tally up the total and talk turkey with the hotels. Please send an email to to let us know if we can count you in! It all depends on YOU, so send in your "I'm in!" NOW.
Team Leader: Atrayah. Now we have 2 Silver Sisters Events in South Africa! August 4th is the next event scheduled for our Silver Sisters in Cape Town, South Africa. They'll be meeting in the suburb of Vredehoek. The second event takes place in Johannesburg on Thursday, September 30th. Those interested in joining in on the fun should contact Atrayah in the Member's Album.
Team Leader: Connie L. Five Arizona Silver Sisters are getting together on August 7th, 11:00 AM, at a well-known Fashion Park in Phoenix. Sounds like good shopping and good times! If you're interested in joining them, find out all the details from Connie. And she's now in the Members Album!
Team Leader: JN, who posts as SilverJ. A great meet-up opportunity for gals in the Northern Virginia, Baltimore, Maryland, and even Pennsylvania areas. The plans are just hatching for this one, so you can be in on picking the dates and suggesting a great place. Contact SilverJ now!
Bonus:
Every Member who attends a Silver Sisters Event will receive a free Going Gray, Looking Great! baseball cap. The best root-hider ever invented! Modeled by our very own Elizabeth.
If you would like to be a team leader and get a group together, post an announcement below, see if you get any interest. And when your plans start shaping up, notify me, and we'll put up a license plate for your area!
Thanks Diana for the license plate!
Okay, all my wonderful silver sisters, here’s just a little more on our meet: Right now there are five of us getting together in Newport, RI on Sunday Nov. 15th but we would love to have more of you join in. The plate says “Massachusetts” but if you are anywhere within driving distance of Newport please consider joining us. Lets make it a multi-state get-together! We’re actually meeting mid-morning first for a buffet brunch so we will have plenty of time to tour the mansions. There’s a wonderful sounding exhibit at Rosecliff (the mansion where The Great Gatsby was filmed) entitled “A Newport House Party: Designer Fashions of the 1970s” (an added bonus to just touring the mansion which is amazing to begin with). Here’s a link to the Newport Mansions website: http://www.newportmansions.org/ where you can download a pdf of their visitor guide which gives more info on all the mansions. I’m going to print out a copy and bring it to brunch and we will decide then which ones we want to tour. We don’t need to get advance tickets for the mansion tours but we do need to make a reservation for brunch, so if you will be joining us or need more info please PM Dawn (morningstar). Let’s show those West Coast silvers that us East Coast silvers can get together just as big a group, if not bigger
! Hope to see you on the 15th!

Diana and Nadine - thanks for getting the word out! Any silver sister who can and wants to join us is welcome...but hurry...as Nadine said we need a head count no later than 11/12 to secure our brunch reservation!
Just PM me!

The So Cal Silver Sisters are planning another get together. It’s planned for Sunday, November 22nd, and I’ve heard back from 6 so far. If you are in the So Cal area (think north Orange County, south LA county - Long Beach specifically) and would like to join us for a Sunday morning brunch, just let me know! We’ve always had a grand time when we gather. So far we just have brunch and chat on the agenda, but the restaurant where we plan to meet is a hop, skip and a jump from quaint Main St. in Seal Beach, so we just might mossy over for a stroll after breakfast.
Would love to have our group grow!!
Posted by SBKaren on 11/07 at 07:10 AM
anyone in the area that date...please join us!! we are a fairly harmless group of grays…
Posted by louann on 11/07 at 08:53 AM
hey you east coast grays...i just checked out your mansions tour...beautiful really wish we could have made it a “duet” but we are off by a week ...but i noticed in the picture on the site the 2 women with the headphones...ok ...show us your gray ...we don’t want to see the dyed hair look while touring ....thank you
your gray friend in so cal…
Posted by louann on 11/08 at 12:35 PM
The mansions tour looks like it’ll be beautiful! I was especially tickled by some of the copy on the page you see with the above link .... it talks about the yuletide decorations at this time of year and, I quote, “set against a backdrop of inspirational and historic architecture, the glitter of gold and the sparkle of silver.” There will be some extra silver sparkling when the silver sisters are there!
Posted by grayincali on 11/08 at 02:24 PM
let’s hope this “caper” does’t get you into any trouble with the curators....(did i spell that right???)
Posted by louann on 11/10 at 07:30 AM
Last call for Newport, RI! We need to make a reservation for brunch so if you are planning on joining us this Sunday then please PM either me or Dawn (morningstar). If you can’t make brunch but want to join in on the mansion tours afterward we would love to have you (or if you can do brunch but can’t stay around for the tours that works too). Just PM one of us so we can give you the details. Although we’re supposed to get quite a bit of rain tomorrow and Saturday that silver lining is coming through for us silvers and it is supposed to be clear and in the high 50’s on Sunday - yeah! Beautiful weather for a brunch by the ocean and a tour of a mansion or two.
Don’t know if there is another caper in the works but I think that photos are not allowed inside the mansions so who knows
! Be on the look-out for lots of photos and maybe another video!

I’m looking forward to getting together with everyone as well. My camera does take video, so we’ll work on something. We had a spat of rain this morning, but then it cleared. I believe we should be at about 63º when we meet at 10AM, but then we should hit a high of 67º...so definitely fall like weather. Promise to get the photos out as soon as I’ve had a chance to view them myself!
Posted by SBKaren on 11/21 at 04:25 PM
rain??? in SoCal??? OMG! don’t know how you guys do it with such bitter cold weather..brr… make sure you all bundle up!! haha
Helen
Posted by Thisyear on 11/21 at 04:41 PM
Yes, we admit we are wimps when it comes to weather!! BRRR! I’m cold right now! Time for a fire in the fireplace! And some hot cocoa!
Posted by grayincali on 11/21 at 04:46 PM
super warm here...I think it’s 53 ...time to open the windows!!
- have a great time tomorrow! - Helen
Posted by Thisyear on 11/21 at 04:48 PM
Hee! It’s 64 here and I’m cold. My blood is like water it’s so thin!!! Can’t wait to see your pics and video from your meet! Stay warm!
Posted by grayincali on 11/21 at 04:52 PM
Well, it’s 61º here now...and it’ll probably dip down into the 50s...and that’s cold for us! I like 72º - it’s just perfect...and I will be bundled up tomorrow! LOL
Posted by SBKaren on 11/21 at 05:03 PM
Well, the SoCal gals have done it again. The weather gods must be listening very hard when they hear we are going to gather. It was an absolutely gorgeous day! We had a great time and I’m sure Diana will post the pictures as soon as she has heard from everyone else, so everyone else, get your pics and comments to Diana as soon as you can!
Posted by SBKaren on 11/22 at 04:56 PM
I second karens praise to the weather gods...yesterday it was “chilly” for us so cal gals...but today was a lovely 70 with the sun shining on our lovely silvers…
thanks to karen for being a perfect “tour guide” of her adorable hometown...she’s got pictures ...still and moving...stay tuned....
Posted by louann on 11/22 at 05:39 PM
So glad that you CA gals had a perfect CA day! Can’t wait to see your pics and read about your day but you need to get in line - our meet comes first
! Diana, you’ve got your work cut out for you!
Nadine
Posted by lookingrayt on 11/22 at 05:43 PM
well since oz is magical maybe she’ll get them up at the same time!!! oh and all those prom pics too..and don’t forget the turkey dinner thurs...and then there is dec...breathing down our necks...i just broke out in a rash writing this...it was nice to relax today and get our feet wet…
Posted by louann on 11/22 at 06:01 PM
No such thing as getting in line, Nadine! Depends on the complexity, and the speed with which reports and pics come in. LA gals sent in everything the very night of their meet.
Both stories are completed. I imagine the one that doesn’t need the video re-formatted will get in first. But it’s really not a race, we’ll all be able to enjoy both adventures soon.
Posted by Diana Jewell on 11/23 at 07:32 AM
happy monday Oz! glad it warmed up for the SoCal silver sisters!

Thanks, Diana, for the license plate! Let’s make this happen ladies!!! The holidays in NYC, is there anything more exciting?! Let’s add our silver sparkle and make the city shine even more. PM me if you are interested. Diana and I are thinking about either the 12th or the 19th, with the 12th being the first choice as it will be less crazy (if that is possible). Goldie, I wish you were closer!
Nadine
Posted by lookingrayt on 11/25 at 08:30 AM
oh man i will be there in spirit...take my picture with you please!! i have not been to nyc since the summer of 1968!!some day some day…
Posted by louann on 11/26 at 07:41 AM
Nadine—Love the restaurant in Bryant Park by the skating rink! Great idea! There’s also the Boat House in Central Park, right on the pond. And the Rock Center rink/tree is definitely a MUST! I’m feeling very ho-ho-ho already.
Now, if only we could get some takers. . .
Louann, wishing will make it so. Uh, didn’t Tinkerbell say that? Well, we could always go to the Disney Store and get you some fairy dust! Poof, you’re here!
Posted by Diana Jewell on 11/26 at 07:53 AM
Oh louann, you haven’t been here in 40+ years?! I guess you were last here as an infant
! The city has changed quite a bit in those years, and for the better
. I think a return trip is in order!
Diana, I really do hope that we get some takers. I know that this is a busy time of year for everyone but it is a chance to see the city all decked out for the holiday and so some holiday shopping too. The holiday shops at Bryant Park are just fabulous - “over 125 Artisan Boutiques from Around the World”. Here’s the link again for those that might not have caught it in Newbies 09: http://www.theholidayshopsatbryantpark.com/index.php
Come on now, ladies! Let’s try to make this happen. I’m even game for a weeknight if that works better. And the decorations are so much more beautiful at night.
Nadine
Posted by lookingrayt on 11/26 at 08:08 AM
OMG, Nadine—those shops! I’m so there.
Posted by Diana Jewell on 11/26 at 08:14 AM
ummmm nadine ...i was 13!! we were staying in Hazelton PA while my brother in law was on location for “the molly maguires” ahhh richard harris and sean connery and a lovely samantha eggar...every weekend we took a “road trip” in our vista cruiser station wagon (with the windows on top very ahead of it’s time) and my memory is pulling in to NYC very late and all of us kids just looking up through the windows at the buildings and being amazed...then stopping a policeman to ask him where the broadway shows were and his response?? “on broadway” “they say the neon lights are bright....”
ahhh fun memories...road trips THE BEST ...we managed to take our kids in quite a few of those WITH grandma and grandpa on board!!
some of those memories are just as good if not better than those “flying” vacations as my kids called them!! ahhh those were the days… have fun!!
Posted by louann on 11/26 at 09:15 AM
I love NYC - I stayed there in 1991 and 1993. Hope you guys have fun!!

You’re so sweet Nadine, I wish I was closer too! Make some silver memories for all of us to share!!

Southwest Silvers anyone? Carolyn and I would like to plan an event in New Mexico. Are we the only ones here? We’re thinking Albuquerque...maybe Santa Fe?
Posted by Ravenjourney on 11/30 at 02:38 PM
Even if you are the only two, you could always have a Mini Meet!
Posted by Diana Jewell on 11/30 at 02:42 PM
A mini-meet sounds good, too.
let’s see what we can cook up!
Posted by Ravenjourney on 11/30 at 02:51 PM
I’m in Texas and might be able to swing a Southwest Silver get together! I’ll drop you a note Ravenjourney!

Hi Nadine,
I really wanted to come to NY and looked up some flights- but ‘fraid the budget won’t stretch to it this time.
I’ll have to win the lottery, then I can come to all the meets and ‘meet’ everyone!
Posted by Chrissy on 12/01 at 06:38 AM
Chrissy, you are so sweet! I understand the budget issues. I keep saying I need to win the lottery too, but the problem is that I never play.
Now ladies, Chrissy was thinking about flying in from the UK and I can’t even get the locals to join in!
I know that it is a crazy busy time of year but did you ladies see those shops at Bryant Park! It’s a chance to meet some silver sisters AND get some holiday shopping done - what could be better! I went through the entire members list (all 55 pages of 20 names each!) and made a list of all those who are in the NY area. Unfortunately, the majority of members do not list a location. I came up with 25 names and will be sending out an email/pm in the next day or two. Now I know how hard it is for Diana to organize something on a large scale because even on a small scale it is near impossible.

NoCal’ers
Im up for meeting late January, Anytime by the coast is fun, maybe a nice warm place with clam chowder and a fire place. (Everyone back east has to remember that we in California need that warmth when it gets below 50!) If anyone has any idea send me a PM. Then I’ll let Diana know our plans.
Last year SB Karen (SO-CAL) and Butter_Dream (NO-CAL)met in May for a Mini-meet. We can also try to have a combo meet then as well.
Cathy ><> ><> ><>
Posted by Cathy on 12/03 at 11:25 AM
Actually, it was Cheri (SoCalSilver) who ventured north to do a meet-up with Butterfly Dream in Monterey. She does this trip every year (it’s a Big Sur walk), so she’s probably coming up again come May. May be good for a second meet-up!
Posted by Diana Jewell on 12/03 at 03:17 PM
Ok then, here we are at the silver sisters meet section for discussions regarding noCal!
I live in Mill Valley in Marin County. Anyone in or near the SF Bay area?
Late January - great.
Along the coast - great.
Nice warm place - great.

Barbara—Your license plate has officially gone up! Now you can all get together and hash it out. Thanks for posting here, by the way!
Can’t wait to see what you guys come up with! I bet it’s going to be a doozey! GGLG caps at the ready, gals!
Posted by Diana Jewell on 12/04 at 02:45 PM
Where are all the NYC area Silver Sisters??? It can’t be just me and Diana that are enticed by those fabulous holiday shops at Bryant Park - http://www.theholidayshopsatbryantpark.com/index.php
. I know that it is a busy time of year but here’s your chance to meet some silver sisters (and our fearless leader too!) and get some holiday shopping done at the same time. And if the weather is nice we can check out the windows on Fifth Avenue and the tree in Rockefeller Center. Now I bet I have lots of our non-NYC area silver sisters drooling and wishing they lived closer so come on now - send me a PM and let’s add some of our silver sparkle to the holiday glitter. Let me know if the 12th or the 19th works better for you (or suggest another date) and I will figure out what works best for everyone.

Hi Diana,
Thanks for letting me and everyone else know about our very own license plate!
Cathy, I’ll follow your lead!
Stinson Beach, Muir Woods and Mt. Tamalpais is my exit off 101. It’s just a couple of exits north of the GG Bridge.
Barbara
Posted by Barbara on 12/04 at 05:01 PM
Barbara, Since I’m so new to the North you decide on the place, sounds like a co-chair job to me!
It would be fun to to a North & South meet in May as well, its a beautiful time in Monterey and Big Sur!
I had my hair cut 3 weeks ago, but I’m getting ready to really do it short, so I’ll send in a picture when done.
Cathy ><> ><> ><>
Posted by Cathy on 12/05 at 06:59 AM
As a point of interest:
Having our meet in May could give those gals who don’t live in the Bay area time to book their flights and hotels here so that they can join us!
Consider the fact that San Francisco is ranked the #1 vacation city in America.
A haircut sounds great! Looking forward to seeing a picture.

We lost a meet, and gained one! New Mexico is now boarding. New York bit the dust. Not really, though. OZ was there. Met a friend for lunch, saw the ice skaters, the tree, the “artisan” boutiques. All very festive. Good idea, Nadine!
Posted by Diana Jewell on 12/11 at 09:22 PM
I live in San Francisco and anywhere in or out of the city would work for me. If you want to visit the city a fun itinerary might include a morning stroll through the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market then a ferry ride to Tiburon/or Sausalito for lunch at a multitude of fun places and a stroll around the town.... Or maybe brunch at the Rotunda at Union Square and a walk around downtown or North Beach....Or brunch at Rosa’s Cafe on Union Street in Cow Hollow, a jaunt along Union and then Chestnut Streets before heading to Chrissy Field for a walk along the beach....

Anyone from Portland Oregon want to meet at a local mall to get a free make-over? I’d like to see what make-up would work better now with my changing hair and complexion coloring. I think being with other women who will give an honest opinion (ie sometimes sales ladies will tell you that you look great just to sell you their brand of make-up) would be wonderful. We don’t have to actually purchase any make-up, just have it applied and then wear it around the mall and think about it and maybe go out to a cafe and visit now that we’re all made up. Any Portland Oregon takers? Am I going about this the right way by posting on this area or is there another protocol?
Posted by Barb Hughes on 01/06 at 05:39 PM
Barb—Absolutely fine to post this here. If a few more post in to express interest, then you can be Team Leader, we’ll put up a license plate for you, and then the planning should be done through PM’s. (This is the internet, after all!
) Keep me in the loop, let me know the details, and we’ll ship out your very special GGLG baseball caps! I think a makeover/café day is a fun plan!
Posted by Diana Jewell on 01/06 at 06:24 PM
Dear Barb, I am Silver near Seattle!! I live in Longview, Wa. I would love to mini meet at Lloyd Center in Portland. Lunch at the Nordstrom Cafe? I also need help in the makeup area. Let me know what you think! Patty Brady

PORTLAND OREGON MINI MEET Patty that’s a perfect idea! Lloyd center is centrally located, max is close by and there’s plenty of parking. Nordstrom Cafe sounds great - I’m totally game for a girly time:) Anyone else want to join Patty and I for some pampering?
Posted by Barb Hughes on 01/07 at 03:55 PM
Dear Barb, What day during the week sounds good to you? We can meet at the Lancome cosmetics area in Nordstrom? My picture is in the Great Grays Gallery! Let’s get this show on the road! P.S. Linda, how do we proceed? Sounds like we have a mini meet in Portland, Oregon! Anyone else want to join us for a fun day? Patty Brady P.S. My info is in the PM area of this site.
Posted by Silver near Seattle on 01/08 at 08:03 AM
I went to the members album and pm’d a few women in the NW, so we’ll see if we get any takers that way. Great picture BTW Patty! I look forward to the in-person encouragement, as well as a chance to play at the Nordstrom make-up counter.
Posted by Barb Hughes on 01/08 at 08:54 AM
If, by Linda, you are referring to me, Pat Brady, you proceed through PMs ONLY, keeping me in the loop, as your final plans start to firm up. That way, you will not have uninvited guests at your meet.
Posted by Diana Jewell on 01/08 at 09:15 AM
Silver Near Seattle I can’t find your email to PM you in the members album. Is there another place I could find that information? Otherwise, feel free to click on the license place above (Yay! thank you Diana:) and you can contact me so we can set a day. I’ve had contact with a few other women that would be interested depending on what day it is. Look forward to hearing from you - and any other women from the NW that want to play!
Posted by Barb Hughes on 01/09 at 05:11 PM
Heee, Barb—the license plates are not links. If you want to find Silver Near Seattle, Patty Brady, go to the homepage. Under Members, click on Want to Get in The Members Album? Then scroll down on the page to read “How Do You Find a Member Who is Not in The Member’s Album?” Sounds complicated, but it’s really simple.
Or, maybe Patty will see your note here then click on YOU in the Member’s Album, and you can share emails that way. We don’t post emails on the site for privacy reasons.
Posted by Diana Jewell on 01/09 at 06:18 PM
Thanks Diana. I just PM’d Patty and look forward to her reply. Also there are 2 other women that may be able to come, one that could if it were summer, and one that says it’s too far for her to travel. So at this point, we’ve got 4 possible women for the Portland meet.
Posted by Barb Hughes on 01/09 at 06:47 PM
Wow. Go, great Northwest! Is that 4 besides the 2 that probably can’t make it?
Posted by Diana Jewell on 01/09 at 06:52 PM
2 of us, Patty and I, have confirmed for a Portland meet coming up next week! I can’t wait! Thanks for the business cards - I’ll share them with Patty. We look forward to the hats, too, and will take pictures. If anyone else wants to join us at the last minute, let me know.

This just in. The Southern California Silver Sisters are meeting again. We have a date. We have a reservation. This time we are leaving the beach and heading inland. So far eight of us will be having Afternoon Tea together on one Saturday afternoon in February. If you live in the greater Los Angeles area, send a Private Message to SoCalSilver for details and to make your reservation to join us. Come on down!
Don’t forget our great Oz sends an exclusive GGLG baseball cap to every Silver Sister who attends one of these events for the first time. GGLG caps are not available any other way...not at any price. You know you want yours!
Cheers!

Barbara, ALL Silver Sisters are always welcome at our events. Thank you for alerting us that you will be visiting our end of the state. It would be WONDERFUL to pull off another NoCal meets SoCal! My fingers are crossed.
Best, C
PS: Silver Sisters everywhere if you are going to be in Southern California during February and would like to attend our event, PM me for details and to make your reservation.

We are in countdown mode for the next Southern California event. One week to go, but still plenty of time to get details and sign on for what is sure to be a good time in Pasadena for the Silver Sisters. Sent me a Private Message for details. All members and their guests are welcome.
The always thoughtful and totally organized Oz has already sent me GGLG caps for members attending a Silver Sister event for the first time. Remember this fashion statement is only available at Silver Sisters’ events.
Come on down to find out what we are up to in Southern California.

Hey Louann,
We all know that you are the adventurous type. How does this sound to you? I’m thinking of hopping the Gold Line (for you out-of-towners, that’s part of LA’s growing subway/light rail system) to Pasadena on Saturday. I haven’t ridden that line yet, so this strikes me as the perfect opportunity to remedy that situation. No parking worries. No freeway traffic. Plus, the line stops just a few blocks from where we are meeting up. Are you up for a “supersized” So Cal event?
Couldn’t find a “light rail” song so lyric from an old spiritual will have to do till one turns up:
When the trains come along,
When the trains come along
I’ll meet you at the station
When the trains come along
“When the Train Comes Along”

Hi So Cal Gals,
I’m still working on getting down there from up here.
What airport is closest to Pasadena?
It all depends upon whether or not our beloved kitty, Buzz, has to have surgery. His high calcium levels are being retested and it might be something that’s easily treatable or something not so good.
I’ll PM.
Barbara
Posted by Barbara on 01/30 at 11:31 PM
LAX and Burbank would the closest airports, but I’m not sure which on would be the best. In any event, neither is very close to Pasadena. You will need wheels! My fingers are still crossed that you make it. Sending healthy thoughts to kitty Buzz.
Posted by SoCalSilver on 01/31 at 03:23 PM
barbara...if you want pm me ..but burbank airport would be the best bet...it is “on the way” to pasadena for me…

Looking forward to out next meet! I’ve outside emailed a few who live near my area about carpooling- let’s work on that! See everyone on Saturday!
Posted by SBKaren on 01/31 at 03:48 PM
Hi SoCalSilver,
Thanks for your kind thoughts about Buzz. He’s such a love. He lost about 2 lbs. in less than a month, is quite lethargic and his coat is oily which means he’s not grooming himself. I’ll be getting his blood work results on Tuesday, so can’t make any plans until then.
Hey Louann --
I’ll check out the flights from SFO or Oakland to Burbank.
If not this time, next time!!

FEBRUARY PLAY DATE IN PORTLAND OREGON?
Jade got a hold of me and is interested in another GGLG girls meeting in the Portland Oregon area in February! We’re looking at the second week, sometime mid week to weekend. Any other Pacific Northwest ladies looking to get together for some visiting and fun? Some ideas include the Portland Classical Chinese Gardens, or the Pioneer Courthouse Aveda to get our make-up done. We’re open to other ideas, too (for now and for future meets). Let me know if you’re interested, and where else I should post this message since it’s fairly short notice? Should I post it on the events page as well as the 09 chat rooms, or just here? Patti and I met last month, so we’ve got GGLG hats and some business cards left over so we can share. But if there are any new ladies wanting to come let me know ASAP so we can get you a cap, too.

The Colorado Meet next week is still on, but one of my gals had to back out. If any of you Coloradan want to meet up, PM me and we’ll see what shakes out!

The SoCal Silver Sisters that were going to meet up today in Old Pasadena are going to re-schedule. The rain is coming down too hard and the winds are fierce - not a pleasant day for a tea! We are currently, at this moment, having a quiet reprise, but it isn’t to last. Driving LA Freeways on a dry day can be a challenge, on a wet day it really ratchets up a notch. I’m looking forward to seeing Old Pasadena on a sunny SoCal day!!! They’ll be back!!!

SoCal Gals, Sorry to hear that you had to cancel. Stay dry - from sunny northern ca.

Alas the Colorado meet did not happen! Me myself and I met that morning but no one else. It was a nice day with the free museums here though! And my silver hair looked fabulous if I dont say so myself.

Awww, Ruth. Did ya wear your GGLG cap and take a picture of yourself?
I think this must have been national cancel-an-event day. CA got rained out. Did you get snowed out? Well, glad you enjoyed the museums anyway!
Posted by Diana Jewell on 02/06 at 08:32 PM
Ruth, You have given new meaning to a “mini” meet. Seriously, Congratulations are in order. We in California gave way to weather thereby missing out on our meet today. You toughed it out and for that you should be proud. Denver Rules!
I’m a big fan of “Linda” by John DeAndrea at the Denver Museum of Art. Saw her on my first trip to Denver nearly ten years ago and she is still my favorite museum experience in Denver. Although I have seen some pretty cool new works at the Cherry Creek Art Festival in July too--which is good, because “Linda” tends to be “resting” during the summer.
Hope you had a grand time today!
Best,
C

Silver Sisters as the “Ladies in White Gloves?” Not likely! Yet, Southern California has scheduled an afternoon tea in Pasadena in late March. If you live in the area or will be visiting, contact me for specific details. All Silver Sisters are welcome! Does anyone have a “brand new shiny red Super Stock Dodge?” What a float that would make! Colorado Boulevard may never be the same after seeing our parade of Silver Sisters that day--"Blinded By the Light” if you will!
Cheers!
Posted by SoCalSilver on 02/13 at 01:09 PM
Um, isn’t the Rose Parade over?
Well, when the SoCal gals get together, anything can happen! OK, guys, I hear ya. Late March. Will put that up under your license plate.

Ok, I will post ideas here for the possible “Big Five-oh” meet.
Idea #1:
How about flights into Albuquerque, NM. There is a nice spa in Santa Fe, prices are reasonable. Good food in the area:
Ten Thousand Waves Japanese Spa
http://www.tenthousandwaves.com/RATES/price_list_summary.php
Posted by Ravenjourney on 03/08 at 02:07 PM
Ravenjourney - I just checked out the Japanese Spa link. Have you been there before? Do they have accomodations for a group (ie could we rent a house and all chip in?) or are they all double occupancy cabins?
Posted by Barb Hughes on 03/08 at 02:35 PM
I’ve asked a friend of mine who does a lot of traveling (she’s an independant contractor now, but traveled for years as an executive for an airline) what ideas she has for fun place(s) to meet for a big-five-oh party. I told her that as long as flights were cheap, and the location was fun/pampering with inexpensive accomodations, it could be anywhere in the world. She’s on a business trip right now, but said when she gets back she’ll put some thought into this and get back to us. Just wanted to throw that in the pot. I think the big-five-oh party could also be open to any GGLG woman that wants to celebrate:)

We are counting down the days. One week from today is the next Southern California Silver Sisters meet. Tea time is almost here for everyone who has already signed on. If you want to, there is still time to become a part of what is sure to be another unforgettable California day. All our Silver Sisters are welcome. Drop me a PM for details and to sign up. Pasadena is the place to be next Saturday afternoon!
Posted by SoCalSilver on 03/20 at 10:46 AM
I’m hoping to put together a group for my area. I did a little search in the album but only found a handful of ladies in my area. Maybe they would like to get together too.
I live in Livermore, Ca. Kind of in the center between Sacramento and San Francisco.
Let me know if you’re interested.
Posted by yoginidiva on 03/24 at 01:45 PM
Hi Yoginidiva,
Although we tried to do a nocal meet, it didn’t work out.
Perhaps the timing will be right on the next try.
I’m in Mill Valley. I know that there are others in our general vicinity.
Barbara

Thanks Barbara!
Posted by yoginidiva on 03/24 at 02:59 PM
Ya know, NoCal gals—the baseball caps were sent, didn’t hear they were received. Tried to run down what happened, no answer. This is not the way we do Silver Sisters meets. First rule, and only rule—keep OZ in the loop.
Posted by Diana Jewell on 03/24 at 03:48 PM
Mr. Rodgers would say,
“It’s a beautiful day in this neighborhood.”
A beautiful day for a Silver Sisterhood…
“So let’s make the most of this beautiful day...”
Pasadena, California is the place to be this afternoon if you are a Silver Sister. Come on down!
Posted by SoCalSilver on 03/27 at 07:02 AM
Have fun, you guys!
Posted by Diana Jewell on 03/27 at 07:53 AM
When will there be photos posted? Want to see what I missed. Hoping that school will be out when the next meet is scheduled.
Jade
Posted by Jadejou on 03/29 at 10:53 AM
Hey Jade,
It’s in the works. We have all submitted a story and pictures about our day. Oz is working worked her magic on it all, which includes not only writing something that everyone will find interesting, but re-sizing the pictures. All of this takes time...hours of it for Diana. There are still a few more steps that have to be taken before the article will appear, but it is coming along.
We had a wonderful time in Old Town Pasadena. You and our other Silver Sisters who couldn’t join us were missed. Hopefully, you will be able to come to our next get together. Fall has been mentioned as the time-frame. So start working on ideas about what to do and where.
Finally, a quick thank you to Diana for all the behind-the-scenes work it takes to put “our” articles up on your GGLG website. Where would we be without it or you?
Posted by SoCalSilver on 04/01 at 08:21 AM

Diana, thankYOU for all your support, encouragement and assistance. Absolutely appreciated!

Julesgray - I’m in Portland Oregon. Any ideas for a meet in our area?
Posted by Barb Hughes on 07/17 at 02:57 PM
Nice to meet you Barb. Have you had any meet-ups in Portland yet?
Posted by julesgray on 07/17 at 06:31 PM
I’ve been on a mini meet with Patti where we had our make-up done free at Lloyd center and then had a bite to eat, and 2 mini meets with Jade (who was in the area from CA) where we ate at a little french bakery both times and once also looked around at shops in the Hollywood district. Do you have any ideas for a visiting-type activity in the Portland area?
Posted by Barb Hughes on 07/17 at 06:52 PM
Oooh, just saw the meet open to everyone in Nevada the first weekend in October. I need to check a few things to see if I can work it out, but that would be really really fun to do!
Posted by Barb Hughes on 07/18 at 01:03 PM
I’ve never been to Vegas, and I think a GGLG Meet would be the perfect introduction. Count me in! Wooo-eee!!!
Posted by reddy to gray on 07/18 at 03:30 PM
My husband said - “why don’t you go for it? How much will it cost?” OZ had mentioned a discounted rate on hotel… is there also a group rate for airfare and other stuff too? What are we looking at so we can budget?
Posted by Barb Hughes on 07/18 at 07:24 PM
OZ can only work some miracles.
And I can’t promise a good discount on hotel rates unless I hear from more people. Remember, Vegas is the land of large conventions. They listen to big numbers. So this is a bit of the cart before the horse. If I can promise a fairly large group, I can get a price break. That’s why the early nose count. It’s not a commitment, you just have to be fairly sure you’ll come. I’ll wait a week, and see what we’ve got. Then I can get back to you with any deal I was able to negotiate.
As for airfare, everyone will be coming from different places, so there couldn’t be a “group rate.” Best advice is to check the airlines and see if you can come up with a special. Jet Blue is always pretty good. As for “other stuff”—what other stuff?

I will need exact dates and times, what hotel my silver sisters are staying at… I’ll probably want to take a shuttle from the airport to the hotel. I’m thinking most all of the events will take place in the same hotel? I don’t know.... Please inform me! My phone number is 918-859-3364 call, text or e-mail :D

Posted by davidsrene2010 on 07/19 at 05:42 AM
Right, ok guys, I’m starting to look seriously into this, but there are a few ‘buts’. I’m just going to e-mail my boss to see if I can get the time off. DH wants to know what the men will be doing (tho’ I’ve told him that if he can’t find something to do in Vegas, he’se beyond hope - perhaps we can organize a creche?
) The airfares from here are pretty horrible, the cheapest take a long time! If we do come, we will need to stay in the hotel on the Thursday night as well, but I can organize this once I know which it is. I’ll keep you posted!
Posted by Chrissy on 07/19 at 06:17 AM
Wheee—love the enthusiasm. But just wait. Still counting noses for the week. Then, I’ll go after the hotels. I am working with a contact at one of the “majors,” and, yes, all activities would take place there. But you’re free to roam all over, of course. So please be patient. I can’t go to them with just 15 people, and so far, that’s all I’ve heard from. Jeepers, with over 2,000 Members and 450+ FB fans, I hope we can do better.
Now, as to hubs, Chrissy you’re soooo funny. Mine will be there, as well, so maybe he can organize “the boys.” If I can tear him away from the gambling tables!
Posted by Diana Jewell on 07/19 at 07:52 AM
I think my husband will come unless he can’t get off of work or something. I sure hope he does because I know me and it will be much more relaxing if he’s there.
I too hope that we can get more than 15 silver sisters as I sure would love meeting everyone!!
Just let me know when you get all of the details hammered out
Weeeeee!! Woot Woot and Hollaaa!

The hotels in the older section near Fremont St. are cheaper (like the Golden Nugget); also anyone in Florida or the Midwest can look for specials from Allegiant Airlines… http://www.allegiantair.com/
They have specials all the time…

Oh Chrissy, you must come and bring the DH. I can’t wait til my brother invites me to London to meet you...although I would definitely be transitioned by then at least!
Yikes, am I going to be the only singleton there??? Being divorced is sooo hard as most social events are couples-oriented. Hmmmm guess I’m gonna have to troll Classmates.com more carefully....

If I make it my DH will not go. He’s not crazy about crowds or Vegas, so it will definitely be a girl weekend for me. I’m just hoping some of my So Cal gals can carpool together. It’s really just over a 4 hour drive for us - so very doable!

Does anyone knowes who the Team Leader for Arizona is ?

Connie - there’s no Team Leader for Arizona. Here’s how this works—If you want to get something going, you have to have a few more details—like a possible date or place of an event. So you’re doing the right thing by posting here. If you get a few more responses, let me know, I’ll put up a plate for Arizona, and you can be the Team Leader!

Well, the gang’s not quite all here, but so far, we’ve got the “I’m In’s” and “Thinking about It’s” and what a fun group this promises to be. . .
Now—do I hear 20 more? If any of you have participated in a Silver Sisters Event or Mini Meet, get on the horn (or email) your gang, and say “Viva Las Vegas!” Remember, numbers talk in LV, and I’d like to be able to get you some deals.
Posted by Diana Jewell on 07/21 at 09:20 PM
Viva Lost Wages isn’t my cup o’ tea. However, ‘ya silver sisters are!
The hubster really likes spending time (thus money) in the casino. When I told him about this upcoming “Silver Sister’s Shindig & Soiree”, he tentatively agreed to join me. I’m guessing that I won’t be seeing much of him except in the room.

I am not a gambler or a fan of the “Strip” in Vegas, however, I have enjoyed the spas they offer for nothing along with your hotel room! And hanging out in a swanky hotel with a gang of silver sisters sounds wonderful.
I will bring lots of BOOMSTICKS and offer them at a discount!
We are a powerful force of women. And with the radio show we can really make a mark on the map!
If we get together and brainstorm, share and just have fun together, we could
make some powerful changes.
I feel we owe it to younger women. They want inspiration from older women who feel good about themselves. This movement we are joined in is much more than just throwing a bottle of dye away. Its equivalent to throwing our bras away!!! Womens Liberation baby! Its time!
Lets meet. If your not into the Vegas thing, those that want to gamble and stuff can and the others will find other fun things to do.
You can come to my room and play, chat, come up with more ideas to keep this movement going forward!
I will meet you there.

Lulubell, you brought me to tears. I’ve misplaced my sparkle as of late and have not been present on site for awhile. I’m sure I’ll be able to pick up some in the sparkliest spot on earth..Vegas.
Truly, you are in spirit here lulubell. Whatever spot you happen to grace is a genuinely beautiful place just because you are in it!

Goldie, would it cheer you up if I told you I took one of your pix (in tomato-red sweater) today to the salon and, because it was sweet and sassy (but not layered and w/o bangs), we used it as the basis of my new cut? I told them about Oprah and all and they thought you were gorgeous.
Can’t WAIT to meet you and all the other silver sisters… although in a way, I feel like I know you all very well, dear ones!

Diana~ Any idea what time Friday’s reception will be? Just wondering what time we all need to be there.
Posted by Aziza on 07/22 at 03:55 PM
Aziza—um, I could say too early to be definite about the time of the reception, but I won’t. I’ll just pick a time. Let’s say 7:00 PM. Good? And let’s get out our sparklies and wear them!
For those who aren’t interested in shopping or “slotting” (my game!
), Vegas does offer some other fun things to do. You can watch the dancing fountains at the Bellagio—really cool, they’re choreographed to music—you can take a Gondola ride at the Venetian, you can take a zero-gravity space flight, you can watch a battleship show at the Treasure Island, you can see a volcano erupt at the Mirage, you can golf. And if you’re really daring, you can go sky diving, take a helicopter to the Grand Canyon or Hoover Dam, take a “Big Shot” ride at the Stratosphere Hotel—launching you 160 feet straight up in 2.5 seconds with basically 4 G’s of force. . . and you can pack your hiking boots and explore the desert. Or you can veg out by the pool. Yes, the pool! Average temp for OUR weekend in LV is 82º, but the low at night can drop to around 60º or below, so be SURE to bring a sweater or jacket.
Posted by Diana Jewell on 07/22 at 07:23 PM
I’m not a big gambler either - slots is my game and sometimes I admit even roulette intimidates me but I really love Vegas...for all the things everyone has said...people watching over the top entertainment, SPAS:-), big beautiful pools and it never sleeps! And did I say spas;-)
Diana - thanks for taking up the charge on this...to my silver sisters if you’ve never tried to put something like this together you have no idea all the blood, sweat and tears it takes to do so......so.....when Diana says she needs to have head counts she means it!
Looking forward to it and to seeing the Jewell 11 again!
Posted by morningstar on 07/23 at 12:59 AM
Yay, Morningstar! Does that mean you’re in? The Jewell 11 is growing. . .some new, some former 11-ites!
Yup, I’m still counting noses. But just got an email from the Bellagio saying they are offering 2 nights with the third night free at that time. Rooms start there at $159. That’s interesting. You all know the Bellagio if you saw Oceans 12 and 13. That’s where it was filmed. Anyway, I’m still waiting to get a tally to see if we can do any better, but this at least may give you some kind of ballpark. If we don’t have a large enough group, you are free to find hotels that may be even cheaper. BUT—don’t book yet. Wait ‘til I see what I can come up with. Let’s get those numbers UP!
Posted by Diana Jewell on 07/23 at 05:09 AM
OK, sitting here talking to my husband about Las Vegas, he says we should go for it! He is a golfer and loves the casinos, so a great get-away for both of us. We just have to “get out” of an already planned weekend event.

also for those who like the outlet mall scene they have a big one 5 min from the “strip” ...
there really is plenty to do without dropping wads of money...vegas is really feeling the slump and so there are some “deals"(pay on words not intended but hey it works) out there for sure...(hence the 1 cent machines that you would not have seen in some of these nicer casinos)anyway...davidsrene2010 we aren’t really scary ...we’re harmless “gray ladies” !!! i remember grayincali and i tlked about this at one of our meets..thinking doesn’t this seem weird to meet people from the “net” over gray hair?? next thing you know she’s on the today show!!!!stranger things have happened…

I LOVE my husband!! He has supported me 100% throughout this entire journey! His wonderful sense of humour (too many one-liners to even remember) and his willingness to stop whatever he was doing to take countless photos of roots and now his comment “You really should and “need” to go to Vegas” has reminded me of why I fell in love with him in the first place! Just needed to put how I feel in words!
Posted by lulubell on 07/23 at 05:56 AM
then follow your “shoulds and needs” and get your silver curls out here!!!!
Posted by louann on 07/23 at 06:03 AM
Awwww, Lulubell, he sounds like one great guy! What a lovely tribute. And SOOO glad you’re IN! This is getting better by the minute, gals!
Posted by Diana Jewell on 07/23 at 06:04 AM
Another thought—for all the hubs who may be golfers—my DH has volunteered to organize twosomes, threesomes, foursomes, whatever. Yay! Bring the clubs, guys!
Just let me know in advance how many of you there are.
Posted by Diana Jewell on 07/23 at 06:10 AM
YEA! lulubell!
I am so excited that you will be coming to Vegas! What a sweetheart of a DH you have.
Posted by Aziza on 07/23 at 10:08 AM
hey, I wonder… does Michael Buble’ have any kind of show he does on a regular basis in Las Vegas?? I’ll have to check that out. I’m actually still considering this. I have to see where we are on building our cottage. Please send me info when ya’ll get it.
I’m from Oklahoma, Don’t you just NEED someone there who says “Yall” every now and again?
Posted by davidsrene2010 on 07/23 at 10:41 AM
davidsrene2010~ Cool!
Posted by Aziza on 07/23 at 10:45 AM
Geeze, if Michael Buble would have gotten you down there, we could have taken up a collection to get him to perform. Alas, he will be in London that weekend. So sad. But there will be plenty of “bubbly”—both in spirit and, um, in spirits! You may not be the only one saying y’all though. I’m getting the hang of it.
Posted by Diana Jewell on 07/23 at 10:53 AM
LOL Diana… It’s just that I missed him when he was in Oklahoma. But I just looked at his tour dates and he’s not even in the united states right now.
If everything goes well and on time with our little cottage then I really want to go and meet yall
It’s been years since I’ve had bubbly… I wonder if it still makes me giggly?
Posted by davidsrene2010 on 07/23 at 12:25 PM
reddy to gray~ I’ll be coming alone. My DH has to work that weekend.
Posted by Aziza on 07/23 at 01:51 PM
That’s fine, Aziza. We can have hubbies, no hubbies, whatever. We’re all friendly enough to bask in the glow of the Silver Sisters! I just threw hubbies in as an option.
But what really counts is—US! I’m tellin’ ya, I can’t wait to meet you all! This is going to be one huge hoot!
Posted by Diana Jewell on 07/23 at 02:39 PM
Oh, I’m not worried about that, Diana. I’ll be fine. reddy to gray had just commmented above that she would be coming alone and wondered if anyone else would be too. I was just wanting to let her know that in addition to Thisyear and others I’d be flying solo too.
It is going to be one big silverfest, that’s for sure. Really looking forward to meeting everyone.
Posted by Aziza on 07/23 at 03:50 PM
yay! the numbers are growing! for anyone who hasn’t done a ‘meet’, it is the coolest thing to see the people you’ve spoken to online in real life!
for example, somehow I felt like I knew Dawn (morningstar) for years the first time I met her...just from her happy cruise picture!
agree with louann...it’s super easy to not spend money and just watch people....I’ve been there twice and also spent less than $5 and had some deliciously weak drinks..
can’t wait to meet lulubell, aziza, goldie, davidsrene, reddytogray and everyone else......it’ll be so neat! (I know..a ridiculously oldfashioned word)
and hanging out with Cindy playing with boomsticks sounds fun! I bet roomservice will deliver boomaritas!
whether with your sweetie or being a wild girl, I think we’ll have a great time!
Helen
Posted by Thisyear on 07/23 at 04:38 PM
Gotta watch those Wild Girls!
Love the “boomaritas”—I’ll take mine poolside, please. Just because of the umbrella in it!
Posted by Diana Jewell on 07/23 at 08:13 PM
BOOMARITAS!!!!!
TOOOOO funny!!!! : D
I’ll put a Boomstick in your margarita INSTEAD of the umbrella! ; )
You guys make me laugh.
So, sounds like this is really coming together. Yahoo!
Posted by cindyjoseph on 07/24 at 04:37 AM
Diana, yes - count me in...sadly I will have to exit early Sunday morning to work a conference in Dallas but I am aiming to get out there Thursday night if I can to enjoy a full day of R&R;on Friday.
Cindy, I am looking forward to testing out the Boomsticks...though I am sure I will love them all and end up coming back with the whole collection:-)
I was lucky to meet Cindy at our luncheon at the Hudson and can attest she is a very natural beauty just as much for her inner glow as her God given assets.
Helen, you are so right..when I first met you and Lisa it was like we knew each other forever! The friendships are an added bonus of this website.
Hope to see all the original Jewell 11 and meet so many of you from the website over the years!
Posted by morningstar on 07/24 at 04:43 AM
i am so excited to meet face to face so many of these “gray ladies” (as my kids refer to this site)...i have so enjoyed all the so cal events...we are easy to spot ...just look for the shiny shades of gray!!!
Posted by louann on 07/24 at 05:58 AM

jade
Posted by Jadejou on 07/24 at 07:16 AM
So this is really going to happen!! I haven’t had a vacation of any sorts in 3 years; this can’t come soon enough. My brother even offered to come from London to stay with my mum while (as he says, whilst) I’m gone. Weeee for the boomaritas!!
Posted by reddy to gray on 07/24 at 07:17 AM
Oh Reddy, that’s great—I know that’s a load off your mind. And Jadejou—sounds like you’re having the same concerns. I hope maybe you can get someone to share the burden. Oh, the Jewell 11 were the ones who attended the Silver Sisters Luncheon at the Hudson. You were among ‘em!
Yes, GGLGers, this is really going to happen!
Posted by Diana Jewell on 07/24 at 08:02 AM
Yes Jade....you are a Jewell 11 gal! And had the longest silver hair outside of Yasmina and Cindy!
Posted by morningstar on 07/24 at 10:03 AM
cool...i didn’t know for sure.
Posted by Jadejou on 07/24 at 01:43 PM
I am planning on joining in the festivities with or without the hubster. That’s providing my m-i-l is doing well. Visited her today and although last week was particularly worrisome, she seem more cognizant of her surroundings and us. She ate some of her favorite treats and chatted about times long ago.
When I went to some high school reunions I purposely left him home. Wanted to spend time with old pals and not be concerned about him - if you know what I mean.
Love & Kisses,

I am so excited about our get together that I might faint from hyperventilating.
Diana, is there a list of who’s definite, possible and not?
Super Silvers Meet!
Barbara
Posted by Barbara on 07/24 at 04:28 PM
There is a list, Barbara, but I can’t publish it. Yet. Can you imagine the mail I’d get? “Hey, I said maybe.” “Hey, I said definitely.” This is hard enough to keep track of at the moment—and I know people might change their plans, one way or the other. So for now, no. I will say, there will be some surprises! There are gals who have told me they’re coming who haven’t posted here. I will say we are at 15 yes’es and 4 maybe’s. That doesn’t make 20 yet—so would like to have at least that to do negotiating with the hotels. If you’re on the fence about this, at least chime in with a maybe.
Posted by Diana Jewell on 07/24 at 05:46 PM
I didn’t think of that perspective. Makes sense, Diana.
Surprises? I love surprises.
Me? I’m a maybe depending on my m-i-l’s status. Sigh…

We are having a “mini meet” in Arizona, if you are interested, we would love to see you and chat.

I’m a maybe as well.
Posted by Barb Hughes on 07/24 at 09:16 PM
Barb, if you are, then please send this to the mailbox . That’s where I’m keeping track of everybody. Can’t possibly pick up the odd “maybe’s” here. . . and on FB, too. Thanks.
Posted by Diana Jewell on 07/25 at 04:23 AM
Cindy, please bring plenty of Boomsticks - I am thinking they should make great stocking stuffers for the other gals in everyone’s life!
Posted by morningstar on 07/25 at 06:25 AM
Trying to find where to see the silver sister meet posts… This is where the link brings me, but I do not know where comments are…
Posted by hijenw on 07/25 at 07:03 AM
Hijenw—you have to go to the Silver Sisters tab and then click on Silver Sisters Meets. The various postings don’t come up if you just access it through “Who’s Sayin’ What Where.” Yes, we are aware of this glitch. Trying to fix it.
Posted by Diana Jewell on 07/25 at 07:03 AM
Oh—and you can also click on the link under Vegas, Baby! on the homepage. That will bring you here as well. Trouble is, this link won’t always be there.
Posted by Diana Jewell on 07/25 at 07:12 AM
Thanks Oz.
I agree with Morningstar - plenty of boomsticks!
Posted by Barb Hughes on 07/25 at 09:05 AM
I am so far behind on all these posts!
However, I promise I will bring plenty of boomsticks!
What a cute idea! Stocking stuffers.

Diana, any more news about the Vegas trip? Any thoughts on what time we’ll finish up on Sunday? Just trying to make plans for flights, don’t want to miss out on anything. Any other hotel news yet?
Posted by Aziza on 07/30 at 08:18 AM
Hi Aziza—The Steven Diamond Show goes “Live” at 3:00 PM on Sunday. So I’d figure at least an hour for that. So, let’s see, Friday night kick off reception is at 7:00. That about covers the time range. I’ll be posting an update to all on Monday. Still workin’ on some deals. . .
Posted by Diana Jewell on 07/30 at 08:46 AM
OK, thanks, Diana! I’ll still hold off on flights until Monday.
Posted by Aziza on 07/30 at 08:50 AM
It struck me today how much I desire to be with all of you in Vegas. You see, due to a bureaucratic snafu, my husband’s paycheck was nearly cut in half! While I remain confident that we’ll get to the bottom of this (on Monday), I knew I must get outside and just walk.
Golden wheat fields ready for harvest, rustled nearly as restlessly as I did. I asked all the usual questions from “Why now?” to “I wonder if I could make a weeks worth of meals from a 20lb turkey sitting in the freezer??”
It’s my nature to look at the glass “half-full”, but this moment tried even this die hard Pollyanna. That’s when I began to see all of your faces. (Okay, I thought about your hair too!) I thought of laughing with Louann and sharing stories of kids and grandbabies with Aziza and Lulubell. I thought of Cindy Joseph and her beautiful spirit and Morningstar, Barbara & Helen.
And I thought of Diana. Her gentle, determined guidance. I thought of her sitting with her laptop through not one move, but TWO. All the while, still being the silver thread that holds us together. How could I miss seeing her??
I realized that I could NOT miss this “gathering of the heart”. Truly, this is what it is.
And so, I turned on my heels with renewed spirit. Come what may, this silver sister will be there. The moment that I’m able to hold out my arms and really feel the warm embrace from my friends, every sacrifice will seem so far away.
So please, those of you who may be sitting on the fence. Jump down and get moving! I need to see you there! Besides, I’ll be bringing plenty of cheese and crackers to share!
Posted by Goldie on 07/30 at 07:41 PM
...and reddy to gray! I couldn’t forget you!
Posted by Goldie on 07/30 at 08:03 PM
Oh Goldie, you are such a love.
Barbara
Posted by Barbara on 07/31 at 01:58 AM
Dear Goldie, I am sending strengthening thoughts your way. It seems like you have had more than your share of ups and downs lately. I hope this awful snafu gets resolved quickly. I’ve been struggling with feelings of loneliness lately. But this quote from Ernest Hemingway has helped me a bit: “The world breaks everyone. And afterwards many are strong in the broken places.” I’m so looking forward to meeting you and the other silver sisters in Vegas. Stay strong and don’t be afraid to ask from help from whatever source you think can help. Hugs across the miles!
Posted by reddy to gray on 07/31 at 06:09 AM
OK, you guys, ya want OZ to tear up? Bad enough there is a lump in my throat about golf-ball size. Goldie, you’re going to have the best R&R;there, which helps through big problems and small. Doesn’t sound like you’ve had any small ones lately, though.
But this is going to be one big hugfest, I’m sure of it! Silver Sisters Forever!
Posted by Diana Jewell on 07/31 at 06:41 AM
goldie ...hang in there..we are in medicine ..our paycheck is always cut in half!!! thanks to the insurance companies!!
i’ll make a deal with you ...you bring the turkey ...i’ll bring the trimmings and we can have an early THANKSGIVING celebration in viva las vegas...cuz no matter what the glass has to be half full!!!!
Posted by louann on 07/31 at 06:52 AM
Well, it’s going to be more than half-full of champagne come Friday night!
Or. . . whatever anybody’s heart desires.
Posted by Diana Jewell on 07/31 at 06:56 AM
My sister is paying for my ticket and part of my hotel! With me bringing the turkey and Louann bringing the trimmings, all that’s left is the glitter in the salt shakers!!
It’s the love of family and friends that fills the glass...I’m full to overflowing this morning...thank you all!

Posted by Goldie on 07/31 at 06:58 AM
Oh, I love you all! Even tho’ I won’t be with you, my sis and I will be thinking of you, we will be going away on a little trip that weekend, we’ll have our own mini mini meet, and raise a glass ( or two) to you guys!
Posted by Chrissy on 07/31 at 08:54 AM
Raise two or three, Chrissy! I think we should have a toast whenever we are together...a gathering of the hearts around the world…
Posted by Goldie on 07/31 at 10:20 AM
Goldie, will my semi-salt-and-pepper hair count??
I’ll bring my cranberry sauce to boot!! Wow, if I could only get into a cranberry sequined sheath I wore on a cruise 15 years ago…
My darling prodigal brother is definitely (I think!
) coming over to the States and has agreed to be with my mum that glorious weekend. That big gust of hot air you just felt is my big sigh of relief. Bring it all on, sisters!
Posted by reddy to gray on 07/31 at 01:02 PM
I’m so glad to hear it reddy! You and your hair count in spades in my book! Oh yea, I’m in training until Vegas...cue the “Rocky” theme song...da, da,daaa, da, da,daaaa
Posted by Goldie on 07/31 at 01:20 PM
Goldie… can’t wait to meet you and so glad it will work out for you to come to vegas… we have so many themes to go with! thanksgiving, silver sisters, wild silver girls gone wild, the Wizard of Oz… this will be SO fun!!!
Helen (of the infamous ‘08 class! and the Jewell 11 haha!)
Posted by Thisyear on 08/01 at 05:59 PM
Heee...I love a good theme Helen! I can’t wait to give everyone a big hug! I get emotional just thinking about it..I better put a box of Kleenex on a chain and wear it around my neck!
Posted by Goldie on 08/01 at 07:36 PM
Themes? Did I hear themes? Let’s just say we’re THANKFUL to be with our WILD GIRL SILVER SISTERS on the SILVER BRICK ROAD.
Posted by Diana Jewell on 08/01 at 07:41 PM
Heee...no worries Oz! We aren’t going to make you decorate the venue with themes. With all of us in one room there will be enough sparkle!! Although, maybe you could rise up out of the fountains for a grand entrance…
Posted by Goldie on 08/02 at 06:42 AM
Oh yeah, that would be me. Hair dripping, dress ruined, rising like Venus on the half shell.
Speaking of the fountains, everybody, yes, I did get a group rate quote from the Bellagio. Don’t think it’s low enough—although, “for them,” it’s fairly good. Am checking with another place, equally luxurious, and still waiting to hear back. Need just a little more time. Please bear with me.
Posted by Diana Jewell on 08/02 at 10:21 AM
Great - keep us posted Diana - looking forward to making flight arrangements soon!
Helen - we’ve been to silver sister meets in NYC, MA and RI...now Vegas!!!! Who knew!
Nadine - you in?
Posted by morningstar on 08/03 at 01:32 AM
Oh Dawn, I wish I could join you all but I just paid my daughter’s college tuition and there is no money left for me! I will be there in spirit and can’t wait to see all the photos and read all about it. I do believe, though, that it is about time for another MA/NJ get-together...maybe in CT this time?
Nadine
Posted by lookingrayt on 08/03 at 11:46 PM
CT sounds like a good one! We can round up Helen, Lisa etc. etc.! I will miss your shining enthusiasm in vegas.
Posted by morningstar on 08/04 at 12:28 AM
I would love to attend a local get-together. I am disappointed that I am unable to go to Vegas, but I have done a lot of home remodeling lately and the budget won’t support a trip like that.
I live in MA and could easily do CT or NY.
Unless your plans coincide with some foot surgery I am having done in late October, I would love to join you.
Sue
Posted by Mickeyduck on 08/04 at 02:24 AM
I don’t want to steal Oz’s thunder by planning another event too close to the big Las Vegas event, and for those like Helen and Dawn who will be going to Vegas it may be too much to try to do something before. I’m thinking maybe late October/early November (which is when I think we did Newport last year). That time of year is beautiful in New England. Something in Central CT could be a day trip for those in MA, NY, CT and central to northern NJ. Let me know by posting here or by PM me if you are interested and I will be more than happy to do some investigating and make the arrangements.

Hi Nadine,
I totally undertand the timing. I am having foot surgery on October 27th, so I will be out of commission for about a month.
I can do the weekend before the 27th, but please don’t plan around me. I’ll catch the next one.

Hi Nadine,
I live in CT. and I would love to attend a local get-together.
It sounds like a lot of fun and it would be awesome to meet some silver sisters. Count me in on local get togethers.
Would had loved to go to Las Vegas, Nevada. But with small children and a crazy life it just will not allow it.

Sue, I was trying to quickly reply to Dawn and although I saw your post it slipped my mind when throwing out possible times to get-together. Didn’t want you to think that I totally ignored your post about having surgery at the end of October. How about the weekend of Oct. 23rd? Helen, Dawn, Donnas, Lisa (are you out there, Lisa H.?), does that date work for all of you? Let’s see what we can get going!
Nadine
Posted by lookingrayt on 08/04 at 03:47 PM
Works for me Nadine and it will be great to meet some new sisters in person!
Posted by morningstar on 08/04 at 04:09 PM
That’s OK, Nadine. I knew what happened. I do it myself all the time. And again, if that weekend doesn’t work for everyone, please don’t feel you have to accomodate me.
I will catch another one.
On another note, I had a haircut today and I feel like a new person. It has been 8 weeks and I had a lot of bulk that needed to be reduced.
Dontcha just feel great after coming from the hairdresser?
Posted by Mickeyduck on 08/04 at 05:55 PM
I don’t know where this summer has gone! I knew I had posted about putting something together in CT and it took me “forever” this morning to find where I had posted it and now that I finally found it I can’t believe it was three weeks ago!
So the weekend I am looking at is Oct. 23rd/24th. I googled events/tourists sites in Central CT and came up with The Connecticut Renaissance Faire’s King Arthur’s Fall Harvest Faire in Hebron, CT (http://www.ctfaire.com/fall/). Hebron is just about dead center in CT and is about a 2.5 hour drive from where I am in Northern NJ. That’s doable for me for a day trip and I am happy to drive anyone that wants to drive to me or who I can pick up along the way. It sounds like a lot of fun and their should still be some beautiful fall foliage at that time too. I am okay with either Saturday or Sunday. What does everyone think???
