Maybe I should have attached fake silver hair all around the baseball cap!

There's talk of the Silver Sisterhood getting together all over the country. Canada, too! Yet those of you who don't post or follow all the chat have no way of knowing. That's why I'm putting events-in-the-planning here. It's a great opportunity to get together with other women who are going through all the joys, trials, and triumphs of going natural. To gab about products. Share hair care secrets. Make new friends.
The gals in Colorado, Southern California, Texas, Ontario, and Pennsylvania have already held events - and had a blast. They're now planning new times to get together again. New things to do. You'll see some "repeat engagements" already posted below.
Find your locale, and "team leader." Then go to the Members Album and send her a PM to be part of the fun. Just click on the link beside the picture, and off you'll go to her Profile page. Hit the PM button, and it's that easy.
Already happened. See the story and the pics in Mini Meets! Access from home page or Great Grays tab.
Team Leader: Elizabeth, who posts as Elizabeth. There’s talk of the Twin Cities or Duluth. More talk of inviting friends who may want to go natural. Great way to start a GGLG Chapter! Now’s the time to pick your dates.
Team Leader: Dawn, who posts as Morningstar. A central gathering place for the NorthEast. Not too far from CT, RI, MA, NH and ME. Plan your event and pick your dates!
Team Leader: Cheri, who posts as SoCalSilver. The California Girls are buzzin' about a post-holiday event. January 17th is the big day. Be there for their second great Silver Sisters blast! And this one's getting BIG!
Every person who attends a Silver Sisters Event will receive a free Going Gray, Looking Great! baseball cap. The best root-hider ever invented! Modeled by our very own Elizabeth.
Let's hear from the Northwest, the South, the Midwest, too!
Post below if you want to plan an event near you!
Maybe I should have attached fake silver hair all around the baseball cap!

You got it! Now, why didn’t I THINK of this? Hide your roots and get a fake pony to boot. That’ll be $49.95, please.
Posted by on 10/30 at 07:46 PM
Hey don’t laugh, my husband is all for me going great and looking great, I mentioned to him that some of the ladies get a little spikey artsy new hair cut once they grow several inches of that gergeous new gray. He responded by saying, “well I hope you don’t, I’ve always liked your long hair.” So I have this idea to have some “Great Lenghts” hair extentions applied to help ease the awkard stage. I will let you know how it goes.

See, Diana, there might be a market out there for fake pony baseball cap!
Hang in there, Judy...what usually works is showing him some of the pictures of the ladies here who have gone with the chop! Then letting him see for himself where you’re going with it!
Hey, do they really make gray extentions????

Judy,
I can’t seem to send you PM’s yet here, so I emailed your website. Let me know if you got the email, we are getting more information by the minute! I’M SO EXCITED!!!!

Dede
I need to get the time to sign up for a pm. I did get your e-mail and I look forward to the info thanks a million!!
Posted by on 10/31 at 01:30 PM
Hey .925—if you’re a Member (which you are, or you couldn’t post!), you can get a PM. All someone has to do is find your name on the Members List. They can get to that through their own Profile Page by clicking on their name in boldface at the top bar of that page.
Sometimes, it’s hard to scroll through all the Members to find the person you want to PM. That’s why putting yourself in the Members Album is the best idea. But, really, you don’t need to “sign up” for a PM. It’s automatic.
All you have to do is go to Your Account, click on the column at the left, Personal Settings, and go down to where you see PM’s. Click on the + sign. That’s where you’ll find your inbox. Maybe you have messages waiting already!
Now, you might ask “Where do I see ‘Your Account’?” Look at the Homepage, on the right column where it says Members at the top. You’ll see where it says login. You may think you are already logged in, but click it. Log in again. Suddenly, underneath Members, you’ll see Your Account.
Welcome! And I hope you have a fun time at the Texas Do-Dah!
Posted by on 10/31 at 01:51 PM
I think the baseball cap with a silver pony tail would be awesome!! I’d wear it in a New York Minute!

Hi from New England! Helen (Thisyear) and I are already in touch and setting our sights on a post New Year event - date and place TBD - for anyone in the region and anyone who would like to visit the region!Yes -we have noticed some of you are great travelers!
We’ll keep you posted in the next several weeks. In the meantime we’re calling out to any Silver Sisters in the Northeast to PM with their interest in joining in on the fun!

Way to go, Helen and Dawn! Can’t wait to get pics of New England in winter. Oh, and you too, natch!
This could be a real hot chocolate and snowballs event, everybody. Let us know when you decide on a date!
Posted by on 11/01 at 08:32 AM
And so we shall....it will be a hot time in Frosty NE to be sure! (Emphasis on ‘frosty’ as in our hair;-)
I will be on vacay starting Thursday until shortly before T-day so if anyone PM’s during that time know I will get back to them when I return!

Ladies:
Did you know that there is no such thing as hair extensions for gray hair. I have shopped and shopped and asked and even went to a wig store. I was told that gray and red are the two hardest colors to match, so they don’t do it. They do make a hair clippee thing that is kinda weird and my color is #56. But I don’t know if I’m going to do that.
Anyway… Dede ... where in Texas are you? I’m 30 minutes SW of Fort Worth. I love Texas but it is a dang big state.
Posted by on 11/02 at 10:49 AM
Hi Lynn—you’re VERY close to where the event is going to be. So you better hop on over! PM Dede and let her know.
Also—beg to differ about the silver hair extensions. Ruth, who is in my book (and you can see her on the “What do Women Really Think About Gray?” page) found ‘em. She admits it’s difficult to find them, and she had to settle for artificial, but she DID find them. Now you’re gonna ask me where. . .
Posted by on 11/02 at 10:56 AM
Diana:
If you remember let me know. I never did extensions with my “other” hair but I wanted to do something fun.
Dede:
Let me know where the Texas Silver Event will be.... How exciting!!!
Posted by on 11/02 at 11:33 AM
Lynn—you’re going to have to check your PM’s for more information on the event. Just go to Your Account. On the left column you’ll see personal settings. Scroll down to where you see Personal Messages, click on the plus, and you’ll find your inbox.
Another way to do it—go to the Members Album. You’ll find Dede on the last page under wtxgray. If you click on the link by her picture, you can send her a PM. Then, of course, you’ll still have to check your inbox for her reply.
Posted by on 11/02 at 03:58 PM
Lynn,

How exciting to live so close! A new friend right in your neighborhood, but you may never have met if it wasn’t for this site. Amazing, really.

Go back to the Newbies blog. At least This Year has me humming a different tune!
Posted by on 11/06 at 07:59 PM
Awwwww! You don’t like it? Haven’t you been to Disney World and ridden on the Small World ride? :o)
It really IS one of those annoying songs that just doesn’t feel like it has an ending.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.......
Posted by on 11/06 at 08:11 PM
Yeah, been there, done that. That’s the problem! That song has four lines, and they’re all the same!
Posted by on 11/06 at 08:36 PM
OH MAN… I knew I shouldn’t have looked at this before I went to work… maybe if I turn the radio up REALLY loud I’ll get it out of my mind!!!
Who started that???? Greeneyes???? Bad Greeneyes ...Bad… no… no…

Keep on singing Greeneyes! We’re headed your way!! I’m leaving town at noon, (are you ready to syncronize our watches .925!!) WWAAA WWHHOOOO!! Texas is going to be living it up this weekend! So excited to meet everyone!
Lynn, if you want to get “Small World” out of your head...just start humming the second most “stay in your brain” song I know..."Wake me up...before you go..go...” there...that should do it! AARRGGHHH!!!! I like Greeneye’s song better!!!!!
See all you ladies SOON!!

Diana - sweet of you to remember and thank you for the birthday wishes. :o)
And thanks to you, too, Dede. I’ll be seeing you soon. :o)
Sorry to say I DO know “the song that never ends.” My daughter loved Lambchop and friends. Oh well. It got me off of the previous song. :o)
Just had a long birthday call from my sweet Mom. I’m a Texas girl for now (have only been for 3 years) but I’m working my way back to my country girl roots in Southern Illinois. But I’m glad I’m still here to get together with the Texas girls.
Posted by on 11/07 at 10:01 AM

Helen - Thank you for the song. :o)
I just finished an evening of celebrating with my family. Flowers, cards, gifts, money, too much food, cake and ice cream. They spoiled me nicely. :o)
It’s been a good day. Last year we had to put our golden retriever to sleep on my birthday. This year we have our year old golden puppy to liven up things.
My goal was to be fully natural on my birthday, so I came quite close. I have a hair appointment in December, and all dye should be gone then.
In the morning I’m meeting up with Dede and company! I’m excited! I hope I can get to sleep with this sugar high. :o)
Posted by on 11/07 at 08:18 PM
happy birthday dara!!!sounds like you had fun…
love golden retrievers..have 2 of those myself and we rescued a greyhound a year and a half ago...now that is one funny dog!! and does he love to run!

ps…
have fun at your roundup you texas ladies!!! HI HO SILVER!
la
Posted by on 11/07 at 11:08 PM
Munchkins! Heeeee
As I recall, Glinda was a peroxide blonde! Shows ya how we were indoctrinated to think blondes represent goodness. Who else did we have? Cinderella, Goldilocks. . .Sleeping Beauty was a brunette. The only gray-hair was the Wicked Witch of the West! Which reminds me, if you haven’t checked out “Positive Thoughts” under Gray Today, go look. She’s baaaaaack.
Posted by on 11/08 at 05:34 AM
Just checking in. Back from meeting up with Dede, Judy and Lynn. Lots of laughing and so much fun. Lots of pictures and we even met a really great gray! I think we scared her for a minute, though. Got her picture and tried to convince her to visit this site.
A funny thing. My 21 year old daughter has always told me the people posting here were probably 60 year old men. And my son was worried about me meeting up with these “ladies” I had only met on the internet, and almost came with me to the Botanical Garden. :o) I think they were all relieved to hear I am still alive and okay. :o)
Okay. Off to more birthday celebrating. :o)
Posted by on 11/08 at 01:35 PM
Yeah, that’s us. A bunch of 60 yr. old men lookin’ for hot babes. Probably toothless, too. Well, I think it’s very wise to be a little security-conscious. That’s why we never post the actual meeting places online. It IS a wide wacky world! (Is that what http://www.stands for?)
Glad you had fun. Love the idea of your “ambush makeover!” Can’t wait to see all the pics.
Posted by on 11/08 at 03:09 PM
oh dara that is so funny about your kids!! my daughter sent me a text message while i was having lunch with our bunch !! it’s kinda fun to see them worry for a change

Are there any Silver Sisters from the UK out there, who are getting together?
If not, where can I get that fab hat?
Posted by on 11/09 at 09:10 AM
Hi Curlysuz --
Let’s see, we have Jane, Sharon, and if you’re including Scotland, we have Helen (In Newbies Second semester), and Marilyn. My advice is to go to the Members List, and scout out the .uk addresses, then PM these gals. It would be great if you could get something going. . .and as you see, we’ve got Helen “This Year” who posted she’s waiting for Ryan Air to reduce rates to fly over the pond!
It would be FAB to have a UK event! For now, the baseball caps are only available to those who do have events. But the minute I get a “Store” going on this website, I will be offering them for sale. This is going to take a little time—how long are your roots???
Posted by on 11/09 at 02:57 PM
Well, Curlysuz, that was bad advice on my part. I realize, when you go to the Members List, you can’t see the email addresses. Rats.
Of course, that’s part of the security of this site.
Here’s a better idea. Go to our Members Album, and you’ll see a pic of Sharon. Click on the link beside the picture, and you’ll be able to PM her. That might get something going.
I’d also suggest you put your picture in the Members Album, too, so people will have no trouble PM-ing you about a UK event.
And all you UKers out there—get in touch with Curlysuz!
Posted by on 11/09 at 03:14 PM
Hello All! Well, I’m back at home after our Texas Silver Sister Event, and it was PERFECT! Getting to meet each other really was impowering! What a great weekend! We’ve got lots of pics heading your way, but I will tell you it was a beautiful weekend at the Botanical Gardens, and we spent most of our time in the Japanese Garden.
So much fun and so many laughs! All of the Texas Sisters are wonderful!

The Texas Silver Sister Event was fabulous. Dede has the most beautiful smile and these beautiful silver curls (sigh), Greeneyes is so gorgeous (very glamorous)and Judy is so striking… she is just starting...but give her a year and she will be even more striking with silver hair! It was so hard to leave.
I have to laugh though. I thought I was so brave and daring at 55 (two years ago) to forgo my beloved color and here these women are waaaaayyyyy younger than me. My hat is off to all of you.
Dede made me feel so great when she said that I am a “great gray"… woo hoo. I like it.
Posted by on 11/10 at 07:31 PM
It is so inspriring to hear how everyone is getting together and meeting other Silver Sisters so is anyone interested in coming to a Pennsylvania Silver Sister Event?
We are planning to meet at one of the big Outlet centers in Lancaster County PA. Either Tanger or Rockvale and maybe do some outlet shopping or anything else, we are meeting in Amish country and it is really beautiful. The outlets are located approximately 1.5 hours west of Philadelphia and the date we are looking at is November 21. It’s a Friday for anyone who would be interested in joining us. Please feel free to PM me for any other details.
Hope we can get some more people to join us. So far it is myself and Deb Burcin. Don’t forget, you can get a great hat for this event!
Thanks, Mary
Posted by on 11/11 at 05:42 AM
I have to pipe in again. Honestly, the Texas event really was a wonderful experience. I was a bit nervous, especially since I got there first, and felt awkward waiting for people I didn’t even know. But the moment I saw Lynn with her bouncing white hair, I knew she must be looking for me. :o)
I wish you could meet these three ladies. They are all the greatest! All so different, yet so compatible somehow. And in my opinion, they all are young and vibrant! We had the most fun! I think we had more fun than CO and CA!!! hee hee hee…
If any of you get the opportunity to meet, do it! If the ladies are even half as great as these Texans, you will not be disappointed.
Posted by on 11/11 at 06:54 AM
thanks to this site we have already connected so meeting in person just puts all this chatter to a real person!! fun fun fun..i am glad you think you had more fun than we did but hey “you had to be there” to know !!!

It was so much fun spending time with everyone. Lynn, you had me in stitches laughing so hard (I call it pimp laughing) and no don’t worry, it dosen’t mean THAT. It means pee in my pants laughing. You know when you are laughing so hard your afraid you may piyp?!?
And Dara, yes you are classic, beautiful, graceful and elequent!! It was so cool that you spent part of your birthday weekend with us!! HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
I will get pics asap.
Posted by on 11/11 at 08:23 AM
There you are, Judy! I wondered where you off and went. :o)
Yes, it was a great time. And you are a treasure, yourself. Not a dull moment with you. You certainly live life to the fullest. :o)

My husband wants to attend the next Texas Event… but you know… I could save money to attend the one in NY and I have a very good friend who wants to go to Europe next year (My husband won’t leave the country) so I’m am keeping an eye on that event too!

FYI—and I don’t know WHY—Bill O’Reilly had a pop quiz on tonight about the Wizard of Oz. All kinds of questions—that I COULDN’T answer. Like, what was Dorothy’s last name? Hmmmmm? Who was the first character Dorothy encountered on the yellow brick road? Got that wrong, too. But they did show a wonderful scene of the Great and Powerful OZ! Do you know the actor’s name who played him? Me neither.
Gotta go. Came home tonight to find mailbox jammed with you guys chatting. WOW! And also a picture of a certain Lulu which OZ will go put up now. . . Give me a minute!
Posted by on 11/11 at 06:45 PM
dorothy GALE...didn’t she run into glinda and all those cute munchkins??? can’t remember the name of the actor i can only think of burt lahr (lion) ok… i am still thinking of another but you gotta admit oz is pretty good…
i am off to a movie with dustin hoffman...my friend said it is a middle age chick flick THIS SOUNDS RIGHT UP MY ALLEY ...will report back tomorrow...and of course miss lulu can not wait to see your wonderful new pics and of course there are those texans who think they had just soooo much fun
la
Posted by on 11/11 at 06:57 PM
Wow, Louann, you know your stuff. Right, Gale. Wrong, she hadn’t started her journey yet when she stepped out of her house. I meant when she was off to OZ. Still, you were sorta right. Now who is the first character she met on the road?
Oh—too bad you’re at the movies. You’re missing Lulu’s big screen debut right here!
Posted by on 11/11 at 07:06 PM
well it seems to be the scarecrow was just “too obvious” that’s why i said glinda and her little pals!!
Posted by on 11/12 at 06:56 AM
how cool is that?!? lainla3, you know dustin hoffman?
lol
Posted by on 11/12 at 07:43 AM
Uh, .925, I think Louann meant Dustin Hoffman was IN the movie.
But ya never know with Louann!
Posted by on 11/12 at 08:59 AM
oh yea i know em all!! ha ha...no he was in the movie...i hear he is a short guy (think most of them are except maybe jon voight?) anyway in this town you do see these people around town but dustin h. is not one of them although my best “sighting” was running into (literally) paul mccartney on my walking trail!! now that was incredible...paul mc hot and sweaty in a tee shirt.. mmm mmm good

I encourage everyone to attend a Silver Sister’s meeting if at all possible. Lisa(newbie2) and I enjoyed meeting each other face to face. It brought a whole new meaning to Silver SISTERS! Check out “MINI MEETS” at Great Grays and see for yourself that even the smallest of meets (2) can be a wonderful experience! Debbie and Mary had a mini meet and judging from their photos it too was great fun!!!
Posted by on 11/28 at 07:36 AM
Sigh. Mini Meets is experiencing technical difficulties. First, you could post there, now you can’t. We’re working on it. You could wait, or you could post here, but it really should be fixed soon. . .
Posted by on 11/28 at 08:14 AM
Well, seems the problem won’t be cleared up “soon.” Web designer is not near a computer for next two days. If you can possibly wait to post your comments on Mini Meet, do. It’s always nice to see them in the right section. So sorry.
Posted by on 11/28 at 09:47 AM
Flash! Can’t keep a good WD away from a computer, after all! The Mini Meets comment box is now baaaaack. You can all post there, now. Hooray!
Posted by on 11/29 at 05:52 AM
When and where will there be more information about the California Silver Sister event?
Thank you, Jade

Hi Jade—Nice to hear from you! Here’s the deal on finding out about events. Once they are posted here, with a team leader named, you can send her a PM (Personal Message.) That’s where everybody chats and make plans. We don’t post details on the site for security reasons. I’m usually copied on these PMs, and I’ve gotta say—this one sounds really neat.
All you have to do is click on the Member Album. And go to SoCalSilver’s picture. Click on that link, you’ll get to her page and you can click on PM to send her one.
If you haven’t noticed Member Album, go to the home page, right hand column. See where it says Members login/register? Click on login, even though you think you may be already logged in. Follow the login instructions, and when you are returned to the home page, you’ll see, under Members, Your Account/Logout/Member Album. Just click on Member Album, and you’re there. SoCal Silver is on page 4, I think.
Hope you can join them!

OK, off topic, but can anyone tell me how I can get a picture-- ANY picture--’to “fit” into my profile? I think I am a techno-peasant. Anyway, they are all too big and I don’t know how to change them to make them the appropriate size or memory amount…

Since we’re doing our planning through pm’s you all might not know it, but the SoCal Gals are growing by leaps and bounds! As of this morning there will be 9 of us attending January’s get together. With more than a month to go maybe we’ll grow again between now and then. The more the merrier! Consider this an open invitation to Silver Sisters all over California—Come on down! Or up! Join the fun. PM me directly for details on the next Los Angeles area event.

I’m jealous. I would love to be meeting in Colorado. Since I am originally from Kansas, I was born in Western Kansas and have relatives in Denver, Englewood, Grand Junction. Mike & I went out to Boulder 6 years ago for a conference and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves in the area and just loved the little town on Golden. We were there for a festival and just absolutely loved it! Have a great time - Deb B

CO Sisters,
Peagreen with jealousy is this CA gal. Since my daughter and her three kids will probably be doing exactly what you’ve planned tomorrow evening, my heart is doubly with you all. Enjoy!
Got snow?

Hey So CalSilver, we have snow in Southern Ontario, in fact I woke up this morning to find my Husband outside with the shovel just plugging away. Our driveway is quite large so it took him awhile. The only thing missing here are the mountains!! Hope you have a snowy, Christmas time blast ladies, can’t wait to see the photos.

Hi SoCalSilver
No snow in the Denver Metro Area. It was colder earlier this week with a couple inches and now its 45 degrees. That is sort of typical here. Should get some snow next weekend if the forcast holds.
We will try to take some good pictures today for you all anyway!

Hey Lulubell!
And everyone.
I really enjoyed my time with Ana on Saturday. (dec 6)
We took alot of pictures, but most of the ones of us together were not so great. We sent a bunch of photos to Diana! She will definitely not need all of them.
I have gotten behind on all the posts here, so I am not sure if I missed any other comments.
We were sorry that Sandy H could not make it at the last minute, so it was just the two of us! There are 5 total Coloradan GGLGers so far, and I am looking forward to meeting everyone eventually. Anyone that wants to join us in future please contact me or Ana!!

Great News! We are about to finalize reservations for the upcoming January 17 SoCal Silver Sisters adventure. If you have already contacted SoCalSilver about attending you have received a PM with details. If you are in the Southern California area—we have members from Bakersfield to the southern reaches of Orange country so far—and want to attend this event, now is the time to make yourself heard. Send me a PM and we’ll add you to the list. Don’t miss out. This one is going to be an afternoon delight!
