Petra, aka "catweezie," is our gal from Holland who went against the tide of color, and came out a winner! The only color left on her ends is her true color, and the rest of her silver is shining brightly! Petra’s been married for 28 years to the “love of my life,” has two sons, 14 and 16, and lives near the IJsselmeer lake, where she loves to run. After 30 years of dyeing, she’s extremely happy being natural (especially after a severe PPD reaction), and loves to be free of the “itchies.” Petra works with the elderly, taking care of those suffering from Alzheimer’s and other mental illnesses. In her spare time, she likes to shop and have coffee with friends, and loves to read.
Dara, our “greeneyes,” is a Newbie Grad! One year to the day since she started transitioning, all the old color finally hit the floor. Dara never really wanted to cut her hair short, but did want to lose the reddish-brown dye. After going with lowlights to start the transitioning, she went cold turkey all the way to gorgeous! Like many of you, Dara had her doubts, did not get all the “silver” she thought she would have, and battled her stylist. But in the end, she got what she wanted, her stylist came around, and she has no plans to ever color again. As Dara and her husband are approaching the “empty nest,” she’s trying to decide what she “wants to be when I grow up.” Her life is full of change and new beginnings, and she is pursuing her passion for writing by taking some courses. Dara also enjoys hiking, playing piano, gardening, quilting, crocheting and sewing vintage-inspired aprons.
Rosa is now an official Newbies Grad! She joined us on July 16th, and her husband promptly gave her her first “buzz” cut. In no time at all, her pretty shade of silver was showing, and she kept her hair short and sassy from that point on. Rosa says she’s “totally satisfied with my hair and will never color again. I am me and proud to be 100% all me.” The mother of three, and grandmother of 3, Rosa is usually surrounded by children. But she’s used to that, being one of six kids. She does in-home daycare for 5 children, ages 3 months to 5 years. And she has 3 black labs to add to the mayhem – or as Rosa says, she loves being in the “thick of things.” She loves sports, her Colts, and the races at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. And she hunts, fishes, and sews. Whew!
Karen F, known to all as SBKaren, began her transition in October ’07. She approached transitioning by going to the pros, and when highlighting was recommended, she went for it. For the first and last time. This was just the beginning of the journey for Karen, one that led her to taking control of her health, and losing 25 pounds in the course of 6 months! After finally cutting all the old color off and having layers put in, Karen has a more modern look, and at the age of 56, embraces the idea of “being your authentic self.” A part-time Media Center teacher and tech advisor at a local elementary school, Karen says over 700 students and 50 staff members have gone through the transition with her! And all of us, of course. In her free time, you can find her biking, camping, swimming, and crocheting.
Leeja H., 35, comes from a long line of early gray-ers, and wasn’t surprised to find her first few grays at 16. Determined not to go natural, the upkeep of coloring and the toll it was taking on her hair changed her mind. And so, 4 months ago, Leeja joined the Newbies, and two months later, buzzed all her natural curls right off. She loves that her hair is healthy now, and is happy with her "ice highlights." With two daughters, 9 and 5, Leeja has enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom for the past 9 years, delighting in the ocean, the beach, and the outdoors. But now that her youngest has just started kindergarten, she’s exploring putting her bachelor’s degree in Family and Human Development to use. Best quote: “I think going gray is making me look beyond the reflection in the mirror, to what is inside. And what a gift that truly is.”
Deb Burcin stopped coloring her hair in March, 2008, after asking her colorist for years about going gray. He always told her she “wasn’t ready,” but she was! Now she couldn’t be happier with her stunning steel color, and the way her hair feels softer and thicker. She’s even getting a little curl in it! Originally from Central Kansas, Deb and her family moved to Lancaster County, PA in ’85. She’s been married for almost 34 years to her husband, Mike, and they have two grown children and a daughter-in-law. She says being an “empty nester” has been quite an adjustment, but now retired from work in the medical field, she’s found fun in gardening, photography, knitting, quilting and embroidery. Volunteering with an after-school program, Deb puts her photography and video skills to work!
Beth Aronson had to cope with the tricky tri-color grow-out of blonde, brown and silver as she transitioned, but at the age of 53, that’s exactly what she wanted to do. After her last color in February ’08, Beth did a couple of shorter cuts, and then did the Big Chop this summer. Although she was first concerned with the way she would be perceived at work, it turned out to be better than she ever imagined, and she gained newfound assertiveness and confidence in the bargain. Beth has worked in Information Technology since the 1980’s. In 2003, she went back to school to get her Master’s in Information Resources and Library Science and is now a digital librarian, working with the access and preservation of electronic or digital publications for the state library. Beth loves her job, the southwest, and dating again!
Christie S., 32, is our first Aussie grad! She’s the mother of three children, ages 4, 3, and 2. And if that’s not enough to keep her busy, Christie and her husband grow a lot of their own vegetables, have a couple of hens for eggs, and plan on adding fruit trees and a goat someday. They like to harvest and cook food in season, avoiding additives, and pursuing a natural lifestyle whenever possible. This wasn’t the whole reason she chose to go natural with her hair, but after doing chunky highlights, Christie decided to just go gray the natural way. With a little anxiety every time she got a cut, she finally went for a Jamie Lee. And wow! A whole new polished Christie, with eyes that seemed to get bigger as her hair went shorter. Total transitioning time: 6 months.
Debbie O’Keefe, known to one and all as “Debdo,” had been coloring her hair for 13 years, when she decided to “let her true colors shine” at the age of 44. And she did it in record speed, after a few quick short chops. On July 15th, she wrote she had gone 11 weeks without coloring, so the whole transition took around 20 weeks in all, with a lot of it spent in silvery territory. She says she’s not all white (yet), but her hair has a lot of dimension and interest, and she’s received more compliments on it than she has in a long time, including the famous “if mine would come in like yours. . .” Debbie’s a legal assistant in a large law firm in Cincinnati, has been married to Kevin for 18 years, and has two teenage daughters, Shannon and Kelly. Her favorite vacations take them skiing out west, but this year, she’s taking the girls on a cruise to the Caribbean for Spring Break. Sail on, Silvergirl!
Catherine Thibault, also known as GardenMimine, was our very first “buzzer,” chopping off her long raven black locks practically the minute she decided to go gray. This in spite of a bit of bf drama. He wasn’t as much against the gray as he was the haircut. Now he thinks she’s the “cutest elfish-looking girl ever!” After donating her hair to Locks of Love, Cat sat back and got all kinds of compliments on her new, modern look. Most importantly, Catherine loves the gray and says she’ll never go back because it makes her feel free and complete. Now, at 35, and just recently graduated with a masters in marketing, Catherine is self-employed in marketing research, the mother of two teenage daughters, a health food vegetarian nut, and a true “cat” lover (has 7 of them!).
Dede Runnels, also known as wtxgray, completed her transition in about 9 months. With the full support of her hubby (also a great gray) and “wishy-washy” support from her kids, Dede plowed ahead. Now all she wants is for it to grow long enough to flow and shine from underneath her motorcycle helmet! Dede, soon to be 42, says she’s a “hippie-wanna-be DELUXE!” An earth-mother, nature-lover, and bad biker chick all rolled into one. She rides 4-5 days a week, 8 months of the year. And when she’s not riding, she’s working with 5 male scientists who all try to take credit for the “big ole’ bike sitting in front of the office.” Dede says she’s ready to start a new chapter in her wonderful life. One that will include travel, adventure, and new life –an almost-due first grandchild -- and she looks forward to every bit of it.
Jennifer Black, 48, is our first “Newbie” graduate! We’ve watched her go through curly mid-length brown hair to supershort, to this chic, modern look. She started coloring her hair at the age of 30, and 18 years later got tired of the skunk stripe that “appeared after 3 weeks without an appointment.” As a doctor, Jennifer’s conscious of appointments, as well as the reactions of her patients “who don’t like me to look too young.” Jennifer’s the mother of two, is a runner, a cyclist, and teaches an occasional aerobics class, so she loves the short do – and the color. Still thinking about steely curls. . . someday. You can see, it's starting to get a little longer already!
Lisa Baker, our original “Newbie2,” transitioned to a softly natural look after a year of waiting, watching, and cutting. Although her hair didn’t go as gray as she thought it would, Lisa's committed to being dye-free. At 42, she’s not only learned the art of patience, she’s discovered how liberating being a natural beauty can be! Little known Lisa facts: she loves to have friends over and play Rock Band, letting them play the guitar and drums as she sings “sometimes badly,” into the microphone. Lisa recently earned her Bachelor’s degree, starting when her son was three, and finishing when he was 15! Today, she works as a program assistant for a university medical department, and lives blissfully with her bf, son, “stepson,” and three pets.
Ellenina Gaston, an accomplished artist who works in fiber, mixed media and acrylics, loves to do something creative on a daily basis. And this summer, she went creative with her hair, going natural in just 67 days. Blaming it on impatience, she transitioned from deep auburn to pure platinum, going “biker chick,” then buzzing. Now Ellenina’s just going to relax and let it grow again. Bonus: both her husband and hairstylist approve! Congrats, Karate Mom, on being a Newbie grad!
Carole D. Denney is a Newbie grad who had “been there, done white hair” before. Silver since the age of 37, Carole had a fabulous icy white going on by the time she was 53. And that’s when she got lowlights put in on a “whim.” Bad move. Now she’s worked her way back to glistening white, and vows she’s never going to color again. And why would she? Carole, you’ve got the color we all want!
Diana! I LOVE this page! It will be an on-going inspiration for all of us, and an answer to those wondering how it may change them if they go gray. (The answer is “better than ever!")
You all look beautiful in your shades of gray! It’s amazing how your natural colors soften and give a glow you didn’t have with the dye.

Thanks to all of you!!! You all look so beautiful and at peace with your decision and commitment. I am just out of my first haircut and NO color...you all inspire me.

Guess you could all tell, we were having “technical difficulties” with the posting part of this page today. One comment was posted prior to the problem, but it got lost in the fixing.
It was saved, just couldn’t be posted again. So here it is—from DianeW:
“If I ever feel like I’m wavering, I will return to this page and look at all of you, knowing that if I stick with the plan, I can get there too! Thank you!”

Hey! We’ve got a Newbie Grad Page!!! WOW...you work FAST, Diana!! You’re all looking great, Ladies! Lisa, thanks to your support and encouragement, I finally got my pictures in! And I can’t believe how WHITE my hair looks! I really thought it read more sterling gray until I saw these pictures!
I’ve loved this process so much more with the support of this site and Diana’s book! I can officially say now that I’ve GONE GRAY AND I’M LOVING IT!!!

Who would have thought that I could be even MORE inspired to keep up my transition, BUT INDEED I AM!! I love this page, everyone of you look beautiful. I think the smiles, even more than the silver, make you shine. Thanks Diana for your website and thanks to all the lovely ladies who send in transitioning photos, it takes strength to put ourselves out there for all to see! September 8th will be exactly 2 months since my LAST dye-job and I feel even stronger now, especially since viewing all of you on this page.
Posted by lulubell on 09/01 at 02:45 AM
Hey Dede! You made it here! You look fantastic. I bet your hair does look sterling in other light; outdoor light shows the gray on me more, too. In this photo you almost wouldn’t call it gray because it blends so much with the brown hair I have left. Guess we’re both ready to do some growing now! We’ll have to send in updates after a couple of months to see how that looks.
Posted by newbie2 on 09/01 at 04:31 AM
Thanks to all for the nice words. Funny to be one of the older Newbies now since this all seemed like a crazy, unthinkable move just over a year ago. “Stop colouring my hair?? Do I dare??” What a blast and what freedom!
Posted by newbie2 on 09/01 at 04:32 AM
All of you ladies look so amazing in your “after” pictures with your lovely hair ranging from lightly frosted to grey, pewter, silver and white! Congratulations to all you BEAUTIFUL women!!! All the best to you!

Thanks so much, Lisa! You’re right, it really does change colors according to light...and I agree...let’s just watch it grow and keep sending our pics in as we hit length milestones!
I just LOVE scrolling down through all of our pictures and noticing the look of pure contentment on all of our faces! This is so GREAT!! Hang in there all of you shining star newbies...I can’t wait to see each one of you here!

This is AWESOME!!!! I love this page. So inspirational.

Hi everyone:
How wonderful to find this website;your support means so much to me. After 4 months of growing out my roots, this Friday, I will be getting the last of the old ugly color cut off. Yes, my hair will be short...shorter than I would like, but at least it will be authentic and natural. October 15 is my 60th birthday, and my lovely silver hair will be my birthday present to myself. Without this inspirational website, I don’t think I could have held out as there were times when I felt very discouraged about going gray...not anymore, thanks to you great ladies.
hugs, Maria

Diana~ Kudos to another job well done in putting this part of the website together. Dara, I loved how you managed to put a “committee” and vote together to do it
Rosa- so, can you bet K_Moms’ record to the gallery page? haha If anyone, I think you have the best chance.
I’ve been away so am catching up on the posts...this is such a community you’ve built, Ms.Jewell...hope you really know how much we all love you for it.... txs, Helen G. (thisyear)
Posted by Thisyear on 09/01 at 05:57 PM
Yeah, let’s give credit where credit is due—to Dara/Greeneyes, her “committee,” and the strong-arm tactics.
Nah, it WAS a good idea whose time had come! Lulubell mentioned the power of this group in a recent Newbies post. And it’s so true. When you guys get behind something, you can make things happen.
And speaking of this community, Helen, I put a chat in about it back at the Café. It’s called See You in September, and it expresses how I feel about you all. The feeling is completely mutual!
Posted by Diana Jewell on 09/01 at 06:50 PM
You look fabulous Dede! Your silvery locks suit you so well. Still pretty in whatever color hair you had, you really have such a beautiful shade of natural! Enjoy your new look as the photo shows you already are
Lisa! Wow...that didn’t take so long. I’m so envious. I’m sure I still have at least six months to go til I’m totally dye free. What’s really striking to me is how your face just pops! I’m saying this in a good way. While you were, of course, lovely before, somehow your skin, your eyes...just the whole shabang looks even lovlier. Maybe it’s about how when your hair was darker, that’s what I was drawn to first...but now with this gorgeous natural shade of yours, you can’t help but notice your pretty features. Truly!...and isn’t it interesting how your hair looks different depending on the light. I’ve begun to notice that already with my 3 or so natural inches...such fun...I feel like a kid!...so who said going gray is about getting old!?!?!
Posted by Shara on 09/01 at 07:34 PM
Helen G. - Yeah, it was a really tough job but someone had to do it. hee hee hee…
Diana - You’ve welcomed us into this community and sometimes it’s easy to get a bit carried away. Thanks, as always. The page is even better than I imagined. Anytime you get bored, just let us know and we’ll try to think of something you can do. :o)

Yeah, Debdo—you were almost there on your last cut. So when are we going to get a “graduation” picture???
And Greeneyes—be careful what you wish for!
Instead of thinking of things for me to do. . . I’m thinking of things you guys can do! Oh, yeah. You know, that changing header story on the homepage is such a chore. Sometimes I have zero ideas. Hmmmmmmm. Suggestions welcome.
Posted by Diana Jewell on 09/02 at 05:59 AM
Diana - You make it look so easy. I’m sure I don’t realize how much work this site really is. And who knew you needed more ideas!? Surely we can all put our silver heads together and help out! :o)
Posted by greeneyes on 09/02 at 06:16 AM
Hi Shara,
Thanks--the before and after really helps me see the improvement, too. I have had my hair that shade since I was about 25, following my blond phase, so I really had a hard time imagining myself with any other colour. I am surprised that it doesn’t wash me out, but the bright lipstick sure helps : - ) You will get there soon and it will be wonderful to see you in the new gallery!
Posted by newbie2 on 09/02 at 07:41 AM
Helen, it will be close!! My join date was 7-16-08. I go for a haircut on Thursday. Hopefully, all of my brown tips will come off. Would have let my husband do it again but I need some touch ups around the ears and neckline. lol
That would make it around 50 days!! We’ll see what it looks like. I know some people don’t like really short hair but truthfully, I’ve never had so many compliments on my hair! I will probably keep it pretty short from now on. No use in letting it grow cause it’s really fine and straight...so.....I’ll live on the edge
Posted by Rosa on 09/02 at 02:11 PM
hi Rosa, glad you understood my typo
I think you look great with that short cut...not many people can pull it off but I think you are definitely one of them!
all the best- Helen
Posted by Thisyear on 09/02 at 03:42 PM
Yea Rosa!
It will be fun to see if you get the tips gone with this weeks cut. I am very excited for you.
I am having so much fun with the reactions to my silver, I think I will stay in the short hair club for a while too. I see a bunch of new folks today at a breakfast work event. Still cataloging the commentary for my pals on GGLG.

Hi Newbie2 (Lisa) Many times, I’ve looked at your pictures and admired your dedication and courage to forge ahead as a single mom. I havn’t sent in any photos yet, but I personally think I look prettier and (ironically) more youthful with my naturally gray hair. Thanks so much for your inspiration and the example of your courage.

the ones that yell the loudest also have the most extreme color either really dark or really light…
anyway enough of my blathering

Thanks Ruth! I’ve got to tell you that one of my favorite pictures is of you! I love your braids and can’t wait until my hair gets long enough to try it!!! Louann, it seems most people have a pretty strong opinion about what we’re doing. It really gets some people riled up! I like comments like: “Oh, you don’t want to do THAT!” to “You won’t like it.” Wow--how do these people think they know us better than we know ourselves??
Posted by newbie2 on 09/04 at 10:20 AM
Dede,
My boyfriend wants to see braids again, but that is some time away! I never had done them before this summer...I wasn’t very good at doing them either.(You can’t see the back views of my head!) I did learn that you need to be able to part the hair pretty evenly, and those combs with the pointy end....that is what they are for! who knew!

I have found a new home. I made the decision to stop dying my hair last October 07. I have certainly been in transition mode all that time. It was very difficult at first, walking by mirrors and seeing that person with the gray (white) hair looking back and thinking - who is that? But I love the freedom of NOT dying. I’ve received many compliments on my color.
I have a huge question. I have very thick hair, and while it’s almost grown out, I am still in transition mode. If I cut it short, the transition would all be gone, but I’m scared! I’ve never had hair shorter than shoulder length my whole adult life, but because of it’s thickness and wiriness I hesitate to wear it all down. I can blow it out, calm it down, but step outside (I live in a beach environment and there is always moisture in the air) and it’s like I never did anything. So I usually have somewhat of a pretty heavy ‘bush’. I generally where it in a pony tail, or clip, or half up/half down. I’m scared if I cut it short, I’ll have a short ‘bush’. My hair stylist, who I really like, encourages me - I’m the one who’s hesitant.
Has anyone else gone from longer to shorter with thick coarse gray/brown hair and seen a difference?
Posted by SBKaren on 09/06 at 06:08 AM
Hello and welcome SBKaren! You certainly have found a great HOME for support and warmth!! I have natural curly hair but it is not thick or course, but my oldest daughter does. She has had it very short, almost pixie and it works well for her, she has also (and right now) wore it quite long and that also works. She just can’t seem to handle the growing out stages very well. My advice, or should I say my daughter’s advice is to do your homework and find a top-notch hairstylist who specializes in your hair type. It may be a pricey venture, but worth it in the long run if you are happy with the outcome! It sure can’t be much more expensive than hair coloring, highlighting, etc.,etc. Good Luck to you
Posted by lulubell on 09/06 at 06:24 AM
I’d love to post a picture of my transition...so I’m looking throughout the site to find out how. Maybe I could get some suggestions?
Posted by SBKaren on 09/06 at 06:27 AM
Hi again, just scroll to the top of this page and click on THREE REASONS TO SEND US YOUR PICTURE.
Posted by lulubell on 09/06 at 06:32 AM
O.K. just one more suggestion SBKaren, Diana’s book would be a great buy for you, I have it and it is my gray bible to say the least! There is a multitude of information on all hair types and what to do about them or with them I should say. You can order the book right from this site in fact. Just go to BOOK BOUTIQUE at the very top of the page and click, once again welcome and good luck.
Posted by lulubell on 09/06 at 06:52 AM
i wish i had ordered the book throughthis site...i overpaid on ( i probably can’t say)…
sb karen…
i have always had thick rather coarse hair..i had it long all thru high school...then slowly added layers etc then ended up with the dorothy hammill bob before she had it..ha
i wear it short now and really find it just so easy to wash blow and go!!
welcome to this great site enjoy the weekend!!
Posted by lainla3 on 09/06 at 07:07 AM
Hi Karen,
I also have very thick full hair. I know what you mean when you say that the minute you walk out you look like you have done nothing to your hair. Mine’s the same whenever I go visit my parents in Venezuela. Here in Colorado, it is so dry, my hair plays nice. So if you cannot move here
then getting a short hair style might work. It is easier to manage even in 100% humidity. A little bit of gel is all you will need. Try it. You might like it.

Catherine - You already were beautiful, but now even more so - a more natural, stylish beauty. I’ve enjoyed the drama of your transition...in the beginning I wasn’t sure what was going to happen! :o) Thanks for sharing it with us, and congratualations Graduate!
Posted by greeneyes on 09/12 at 06:03 AM
Congrats Catherine! You look amazing and I love the color!
Posted by elizabeth on 09/12 at 06:43 AM
I went gray a couple of days ago. Really did. I just buzzed it off--took it down to the 1/8” root. My husbands reaction was priceless. He yelled to our daughters “I told you Mom looks great in short hair” After the hullabaloo died down and all opinions were in, I started looking for a support group on line. When I found this site and took a look at pictures of recent graduates, I knew I made the right decision. All of them are so much more beautiful, soft and radiant with the gray hair. WoW!

Oh My Debbie! You look amazing!
Welcome Schabla!!
Each new graduate, each new person who joins our group helps me know that I’m on the right path. I can’t wait to get there (graduate gallery), but I’m enjoying the whole process of getting there.
Have a great Sunday everyone!!!

Jennifer - Thanks for the update! I think your hair is getting excited about those curls getting longer! :o)
Schabla - Pictures! We need pictures! :o)

Fantabulous (is that a word?) Debbie!! I can’t wait for my turn
Posted by lulubell on 09/14 at 01:03 PM
Debbie! Your natural color is stunning! Enjoy! You certainly did do this in record time. I’m envious but I guess I’ve chose to go the slow route...six months now and I’m probably only half way to natural. Looking forward to the day!
Jennifer! I love the curls! Of course, the color as well. You do get me thinking. I think our hair texture is actually similar and it’s tempting to cut shorter after seeing how great you look. Hmmm...decisions, decisions....have a 12 week haircut coming up this week so we’ll see
Posted by Shara on 09/14 at 01:31 PM
Hi Debbie: There’s that post-transition glow! You look fantastic!
Posted by newbie2 on 09/14 at 02:36 PM
Shara--it took me the full year, too. You’ll get there. Although this 12-week appt may be the perfect time to ramp things up and really go full speed ahead. You have a gorgeous charcoal colour coming in and I for one can’t wait to see it all around your face. It will be so flattering.
Posted by newbie2 on 09/14 at 02:38 PM
Hi Jennifer,
You’re getting some nice curls now--looks great. I’m going to send in an update in a couple of weeks myself because my hair really does look more gray than it looks here. Lighting makes all the difference.
Posted by newbie2 on 09/14 at 02:39 PM
Debbie, you look amazing, so soft and beautiful!
Wow, we did it (high five to all graduates)
Looking forward to welcome more!!!!

Your look is so polished, Debbie, congratulations on getting through the tough times!
Posted by Christie on 09/14 at 05:55 PM
Thanks Lisa for the kind words. I am ramped up for my appt this week. It was supposed to be tommorrow but long story...suffice it to say I had to find a new stylist and after much research, I’m going to try a new person in San Francisco. I hear she’s great with cuts so here I go. It’s either going to be another inch and a half or who knows??? I did see a picture in this week’s Chico’s brochure with one of the models wearing a short sassy cut...she has a similar face structure so I’ll bring the ad and get her feedback. I should have an updated photo coming by next weekend.
Posted by Shara on 09/14 at 10:45 PM
All, thanks for the compliments! Yuck—I hate my “before” picture. My hair was so stressed, fried and lifeless (not to mention the bug eyes, but that’s another story). Love my hair and my color! Hang in there ladies, you’ll be on this page soon . . . it is SO worth it!
Shara, good luck with the cut!

Congradulations to schabla on her bold new approach to going grey quickly. It took a lot of guts on her part and wasn’t without much consideration. I should know as I’m her identical twin sister and have been sporting white hair for the past eight years. This was one of the best decisions I have ever made and know you are going to have a lot of fun with your new look. Once again, congradulations sister.

You look wonderful! The color of your hair is striking! I love the transformation!
Posted by elizabeth on 09/15 at 11:46 PM
Thanks Ruth and Elizabeth! Ruth, you will be here soon. I do love the sweater; bought a long-sleeve polo of the same color and I’m seeing this color everywhere. Can you have too many different items in the same color???
Posted by Debdo on 09/16 at 04:31 AM
Nope—purple is a big HUGE color this fall, so go with it. Besides, it looks great with our “new” hair color. Yesterday, I even saw some deep purple nail polish. Hmmmmmm.

Debbie-Congratulations! You look amazing! I love your color! It’s been so great getting to go along on this ride with you! I think you look much younger now...and let’s hear it again for healthy hair! Well done!
Catherine! I’m so glad you’re here! I love your color, it really fits you perfectly! High class, Lady! Congrats!

Hey Debbie, I’m not far from you in Indy. My son lives in Lexington so I go thru Cinci to see him. Maybe we should meet up for a football game.
Posted by Rosa on 09/16 at 11:02 AM
Thanks, Dede! Our color is just about the same. Love how it makes us look so young and happy.
Rosa, that would be great. Be sure to let me know if/when you will be passing thru Cinci, although I’m not sure the Bengals are worth watching . . .

everyone looks sooo great...it is a huge inspiration!!
there are so many “shades of gray” (does anyone remember that monkee song??) and the fun part ofthis whole process is the new colors and accessories...i have gone back to wearing hoopy earrings...just found a great argyle sweater with fun colors running through it...anyway enjoy and celebrate the new “us"…

Posted by lainla3 on 09/17 at 05:44 AM
Hey Louann,
I so agree. I am having so much fun with clothes and make-up. It’s like a rebirth for me--I haven’t felt so ‘girly’ in a long time. I think I got into a bit of a rut fashion/make-up wise and now I’m really enjoying finding new things that work for me. I bought a new skincare regimen and I am wearing colours that I had abandoned for years in favour or brown and black. It’s too fun!
Posted by newbie2 on 09/17 at 06:05 AM
Debbie - I love the new picture & the color is fabulous.
Cat - -I think Ani D. is gorgeous as well, so it was a definite compliment. I also suffer from the personality affliction in photos, so I can relate, but I think you look great.
I am really enjoying watching all these graduations, you all really make me hopeful that mine will look as good.
Posted by MsMika on 09/17 at 12:26 PM
Debbie, will do, and guess what? The Bengals play the Colts here in Indy on the 7th of December. But we’re pretty beat up right now. Not doing so hot.
Posted by Rosa on 09/17 at 04:10 PM
Rosa, here’s hoping that both of our teams start playing better!
Posted by Debdo on 09/18 at 05:08 AM
Well, I have an appointment today with my stylist to have a hair cut. I took some before pictures last night. I’ll take some after when I’m home. I’m still not sure if I’m cutting all the ‘extra’ color off. For me, it would mean a lot of layering. The last time I had highlights put in (back in November 07, and that was actually the 1st time I ever had highlights put in) I did it do help with the growing out as I was whitest on top/in front. When I lift up my hair in back, to get the top layer out of the way, there is very little color left on the bottom. When I drop down the top layer, there is still lots of color. We’ll see how brave I am. While some days I think I’m more than ready, other days I not so sure. Believe me, coming here is what has made me even consider cutting it all off at all. When I see the ‘afters’ of all of you, I think yes, yes yes!!! But when I think about me - I’m think - WAIT! I need you all to come with me to the salon!
Posted by SBKaren on 09/18 at 06:14 AM
Oh - I wanted to add one more thing. When I first began growing my color out I thought I would be white, white, white - as my skunk line sure reflected that. The longer I go without coloring, the more of my dark natural hair color is returning. I thought that was odd. Was anyone else surprised by that? When I pull my hair straight back now, I actually have a brown skunk line going down the middle - who would’ve thought???
Posted by SBKaren on 09/18 at 06:16 AM
Hi SBKaren,
I am one of a few of us who were surprised at how much pigmented hair we still had. Just like you, I was sure I was 90% white given what peeped out every 3 weeks. Surprise! One of the revelations of transitioning--you’re not as gray as you thought you were.
I was totally against layering my hair, too, because I’ve always worn my hair in a blunt cut with long layers only. But it really did help me to cut off the dye; I just wanted to get to the natural colour faster. There are others, though, that have taken the longer road that requires more patience, but that was the right way for them.
Do what feels right. It does grow back, and faster than you’d think!
Posted by newbie2 on 09/18 at 06:41 AM
SBKaren, No need to rush into a short cut if you’re not ready for that! Take a page out of Ana’s book and go for a slightly shorter cut than you’re used to and then if you think you can go shorter still, you can go for it! Do what makes you feel comfortable! For me, the longer I thought about going gray and how much I hate my hair, the shorter the cut was going to be; by the time I got to the salon, it was a pixie.
Posted by Debdo on 09/18 at 10:35 AM
Good luck with the cut SBKaren!
Posted by lulubell on 09/18 at 11:57 AM
OK - I’m back and I love, love, love it! It’s longer than I thought I would be able to have it, with just the slightest of touch of blond on the ends...and only in front. Wow I LOVE the color! It’s all me!!! It makes me think ‘why did I color so many years ago?’ While there is definitely silver/gray in there, not nearly as much as I thought. What was I trying to hide???? As soon a hubby gets home I’ll get some pictures and send my before and after pics.
Posted by SBKaren on 09/18 at 02:57 PM
That’s WONDERFUL, SBKaren!! Can’t wait to see it!! I know you look GREAT!

Vibrant, sophisticated, free-spirited, elegant, glowing… What else can I say? Every one of you looks just absolutely amazing. What a gorgeous bunch of women. Inside and out. This group ROCKS!
Posted by lisagreen on 09/23 at 06:50 AM
Thanks to all of you for the nice compliments. I don’t think I’m getting emails abut follow up comments, so I’mlate. Anyway-- I do need encouragement for the growout, as my hair is at that stage where I don’t what to do with it- behind the ears? in front of the ears? Aack! It’s sticking straight out!--Shara, I think we do have similar CURLY hair. But yours looks so soft! I just bought the Ojon starter kit today to try to bring on the softness and shine-- I’m looking forward to trying it.
Posted by Runner on 09/29 at 09:09 PM
Hi Runner! I’ve been away for almost a week so haven’t been able to read emails, sorry. Is there a picture of you somewhere for me to see. Seems we all try to find the perfect product so it certainly helps to share experiences with our attempts. I am going to try the Ojon products as well since I also feel I need some pick me up shine. It’s tough having the red ends with the salt/pepper thing going on behind it. One thing I tried for softness and it seems to make a difference with curly hair is the Kerastase leave in mask I use twice a week for conditioning. It is a bit pricey but you don’t have to use very much and it makes my coarse curly hair much softer and more manageable to style. Maybe worth a try?
Let me know your thoughts on Ojon products. Thanks!
Posted by Shara on 09/29 at 09:36 PM
Shara, Runner is Jennifer Black, above…
Posted by newbie2 on 09/30 at 08:59 AM
My “After” picture above is just a different one than the original post-transition photo, and shows a little more length and curl-- though it’s not the best pic. Oh well. Shara-- thanks for the tip on the Kerastase product-- I’ll try it. I always end up with a graveyard of hair products when trying a different style and I guess this process is no different!
P.S Tried the Ojon shampoo, conditioner, leave-in conditioner and styling cream so far-- VERY nice and they smell good too.
Jennifer
Posted by Runner on 09/30 at 07:18 PM
Thanks Lisa. Now I realize runner is Jennifer....all these graying gals, newbies and names....whoa...we definitely are growing every day!
Jennifer, I’m heading over to Sephora tommorrow since I understand they carry Ojon. Thanks for the info. I want to try their glossing cream. I am also interested in trying Aveda Blue Malva just to see if I can add a little “umph” to my charcoal and tone down the red a bit.
Posted by Shara on 09/30 at 07:52 PM
Shara—I would be surprised if it did tone down the red. Blue and lilac shampoos counteract yellow. It’s about opposites on the color wheel. Green counteracts red. Look at some of the cosmetic toners while you’re at Sephora (especially Smashbox), and you’ll see this principle in action. There’s a green one to adjust underlying redness in the skin, and a lilac one to balance sallowness.
As a blue shampoo does deposit color, I’m wondering about red+blue=purple!
But keep us posted!

Congratulations on your graduation to a full fledged gray! You really look wonderful. I have to agree about your eyes. They look larger and prettier than before. You still look young, and I think even younger, now that you are rid of the darker dye around your face.
Another example of a quick, extremely successful transition!
Hey, what about your kiddo? Didn’t he think only grandmas had gray hair. :o)

Do you plan to keep the short style?

Thank so much!
Christie-thanks! I have to say again how great you look with your natural hair color!
greeneyes-I’ve enjoyed chatting along the way too. You have been such a great help to me during this process. You are looking so good!
lulubell-that is the question! LOL. I do like the short hair and think it looks fine, but I am just so curious to see what I would look like mid length with my natural color--maybe just long to put in a pony tail again? I need to find a good stylist. I know a good cut is so important! The one I was going before is not there anymore. It was so short I don’t think I will need a cut for while yet? ...And I figure I can always go back to shorter anytime.
Thank you Debdo, it has been a pleasure for me too! I love your beautiful white hair and the short cut. It looks great on you!
Ruth-thank you! You are looking great too! On the work topic--yes this is a big issue--what will be here for future generations--both the physical items and the sometimes ethereal digital information.
You’ve all made my day!

Beth, congrats! Yet another woman who proves Mother Nature does know what she’s doing and we should never fool with her. It is fun to see what your hair will look like longer. You just look so great and happy dating. I love dating stories.
Posted by sallee on 10/02 at 07:48 AM
Thank you Sallee--your hair is beautiful!! Maybe I’ll report on some of the funnier dating adventures in the Talk On area..keeping people anonymous of course...if that would be OK...I never thought at this stage in my life I’d have much to report on...LOL Thanks for your interest!
Posted by beth on 10/02 at 08:26 AM
Thanks, Beth. I’ve said before that when I went natural I didn’t have any issues like I’ve discovered on the site that women have with going “gray”. I just never thought about it and how it could impact so many areas of one’s life. Or the length of ones hair. I know most men have the long hair fixation and if one is married I understand how that could be an issue and it’s scary to go really short if you’ve never done it before, which I had about 10 years before I stopped coloring, so I knew when I decided to stop I was just going to have it chopped off and I had long hair at the time so it was a drastic change but most everyone I knew had seen me with short hair, and to be honest, I didn’t really care what anyone thought. I just wanted my own hair back and never wanted to think about that appointment every three weeks.
I think Talk On would be a great place for dating stories. Oh, you’ll have lots to report, trust me, I’m 55 and hope to be reporting for a long time yet.
You go Silver Sister.
Posted by sallee on 10/02 at 09:07 AM
Beth, you look truly beautiful with your natural hair colour! I echo everyones’ comment that it just lights up your skin tone and your face just comes to life!
Your job sounds really suited to you. Congrats on that and on getting your masters.
I for one will be watching for the dating stories, girls. I am committed so no exciting stories will be coming from me, although I will report back from my first cruise in December...and my first “real” vacation in over 16 years.
Posted by newbie2 on 10/02 at 09:19 AM
Wait a minute, everybody!!! I love the idea of dating stories, but I think it deserves its own blog. For singles, committeds, or marrieds. Heeee—a general let’s dish about guys blog. I’ll start one today. It will be called Silver & the City, natch.
Hold off on all those juicy stories ‘til I do!

A dating blog! Great idea. Lisa, see you’re going on your first cruise in December! I’m going on my first cruise next April. Where are you going? I’m going to the Western Caribbean—Grand Cayman, Belize, Roatan and Cozumel—and I cannot wait.
Posted by Debdo on 10/02 at 10:29 AM
Debdo...I’m going to all the same places!! Is yours a Carnival cruise? Ours is. That is wild.

Yes! Carnival Valor, how ‘bout you! You’ll have to give me the scoop about all you see and do there.
Posted by Debdo on 10/02 at 10:38 AM
Ours is Carnival Legacy. That is quite a coincidence. I will report back..so far we’ve decided the cave tubing in Belize is a must, and snorkling likely in Roatan. The rest is up in the air. Too exciting!!
Posted by newbie2 on 10/02 at 11:14 AM
Great minds do think alike! We’re planning on cave tubing in Belize, tho will probably snorkel on Cozumel and just hit the beach in Roatan. My girls want to go parasailing . . . not so sure about that one.
Posted by Debdo on 10/02 at 12:43 PM
Hi ladies. Had to chime in here. I just did my first cruise in August. We did 7 days in Alaska. The absolutely most fun shore excursion was ziplining. If you get the opportunity, you gotta try it. What a rush! AND, it’s safe for kids. There was a 7 year old girl zipping through the trees and she had a blast.
Posted by lisagreen on 10/02 at 01:23 PM
Ziplining...I read what you wrote about that somewhere else and it sounds really cool. Our kids are both 15 year old boys and I know they’d love that.
Debdo...we WERE going to snorkel in Cozumel but I thought I read that Roatan offered it too and it looked great there. Better decide soon I guess.
Posted by newbie2 on 10/02 at 04:13 PM
AAhhh vacation fun! My hubby and I honeymooned in Central America, and we didn’t do any cave tubing...but we did do some major caving! It is amazing!

All you women look fabulous. I’d have to call myself a graduate as well, as all my old color is cut off. Maybe I’ll be moved soon? I am still somewhat of a newbie.
Beth - I need to speak to you! I am a media center teacher in an elementary school- I teach research skills as well as deal with technology on my campus! For many who might not know - media center = library/computer lab.
Posted by SBKaren on 10/05 at 05:49 AM
Hi Karen--I love your natural hair color!
I did field work in an elementary school media center when I was getting my degree. It was amazing how much those very young students knew about web surfing. Very interesting! They had already had their favorite websites!
I would say feel free to email me but I don’t want to put my email address on a public site--not sure--can you pm my profile? I’ll go check. ( :
Posted by beth on 10/05 at 06:19 AM
Karen, hi again--I just checked--there is a PM feature.
Posted by beth on 10/05 at 06:22 AM
Beth - don’t worry about it, I’ll figure it out when I get home. Believe it or not I’m on a mini-vacation. Brought my laptop to keep in contact with family as my dad is in the hospital. Also to keep an eye to the weather. We’ve had a bit of rain - which has been welcome, but I don’t like to drive in it - and it’s a gorgeously clear day - perfect for driving home.
So - I see my email too and all the responses and this morning just had to check.
I’ll get in touch with you this week. I actually reopen my media center this week - we’ve undergone modernization and this will be our first week open to students - glitches and all!

Beth—no, don’t even THINK about posting your email address here. Mon would remove it instantly. It’s extremely simple to email a Member who is in the Member Album, Karen. You can do it by clicking on the link, whether it says Read Full Bio, or Create one. You’ll go to their page, and you have the choice to send a PM or an Email—click on one or the other “button”. You won’t see their email address, but your email will be sent. That’s the neat advantage of being in the Member Album!
Otherwise, it’s still do-able, but you’ll have to scroll through the long Member’s List, which you can click on in Your Account. You’ll find an email button there, as well.
Just know, everybody, if you do send an email, the Member will now have YOUR email address. And if you answer an email, the original sender will have yours. That’s how email works. If you don’t want that, use the Personal Message feature.

Thanks Diana, The member album is a great feature of your website!
Have a good trip back Karen and I’ll look forward to hearing from you next week.

Lisa, I love your photo in the Member’s Album, your hair looks so silvery! It must be due to different lighting. You look lovely
Posted by lulubell on 10/06 at 05:59 AM
Thanks Lulubell--it is so strange how it can look brown in indoor lighting and so light and silvery in natural light. I wanted to send one in where you could really see the gray, although it’s not a great photo of me, in my opinion.
Did I read that you were going to get a cut soon?? Looking forward to seeing an update from you.
Have a great day!
Posted by newbie2 on 10/06 at 06:10 AM
Yes, I plan a crop on my birthday next month, although I must admit to being a little apprehensive
My old highlights were very blond to begin with and now have taken on a very “ICKY” shade. I may as well get them cut off and just start growing out once more. There was a moment a while back when I thought I could outlast this part of the transition but now it appears I just may not be able to.
I would like the new growth to be long enough to curl just a bit. Wish me luck.
Posted by lulubell on 10/06 at 06:22 AM
Hi Lulu, I do wish you luck and I think that it’ll look just fine. It will be long and curly before you know it!
Posted by newbie2 on 10/06 at 06:31 AM
Lisa I know..I had to bring my laptop into the kitchen with the bright overhead lights to show the silver. Your member photo is beautiful.
Lulu--I understand..I went through the same thing with the fading and “icky” blond highlights. I’m also sure you will look fine and yes, it grows back before you know it!
Posted by beth on 10/06 at 06:53 AM
Thanks Beth! I’m heading for shoulder length hair but not crazy about this in-between length. Are you keeping yours short (which looks fantastic) or in grow mode as well?
Posted by newbie2 on 10/06 at 07:02 AM
Hi Lisa,
Well I’m in grow mode again. LOL I’m going to see if I can let it get to a midlength--maybe between chin and shoulder, so I can pull it back into a pony tail. It’s a hard decision because I do like it short too! But I figure I can always cut it short gain later if I want to.
While I think you look great, I also understand about that in-between length. I would say keep going with that grow mode! It’s very easy to cut it as we know! (:
I’m starting to get to that stage now where the sides do go over my ears but I push them back because they don’t look good over my ears yet. I’m also starting to use midsize velcro rollers for a bit of volume and body, but it only takes a few to blow dry it. I am wondering when I will need a shaping cut even though I am in grow out mode?
Thanks for asking...it’s so nice to be able to chat about this.

Well, I didn’t even find this web site until I had already taken the cold turkey plunge and gone gray, so I’m afraid I can’t post any “along the way” photos. I am posting in another section, although I apologize, I don’t know where. It’s the ones with pictures of gorgeous ladies who have completed the transition already. I don’t know how many days it takes for the photos to appear, but I sent two in. These photos remind me of my own transition period. I still have brown tips in back where my hair is longest, but I did not color or highlight or anything to let mine grow out, I just stopped. I got the Mrs. Pepe LePew comments and others, but laughed it off. I’m single and have not dated in a while, so who am I going to impress? I am happy I did it, and have inspired others to do it, too. I wish I had found this site 9 months ago, right about the last time I dyed my hair and made this decision. YOU GO GIRLS!!!!!!
Posted by rocksister on 10/07 at 03:12 PM
Welcome Rocksister! So glad you’re here! Sounds like you’ve just about graduated!! You must have been able to maintain a great attitude about it since you’ve inspired others to go gray too! WAY TO GO!!

Deb B., such a great smile, one of the things I notice about the grad photos. You look great. Will you let it grow for a while now? I’m always curious about that.
Good morning Diana, still can’t see Ellenina’s new pic. Guess my computer just doesn’t want to recognize it.

The new pic of Karate Mom is in the newbie graduate gallery above--are some of you still seeing the “old” photo?
Ellenina, you look wonderful.

I just scrolled to the top of this page and there is the new photo of Karate Mom, I have been able to see it since yesterday
Posted by lulubell on 10/10 at 08:10 AM
No, still can’t see it. Diana said there is something in the computer (mine) that won’t recognize the new pics because it thinks they’re the old ones. Good figure.
I’m just going to take everyone’s word that Ellenina looks great.
Posted by sallee on 10/10 at 08:27 AM
Well, there is a technical explanation for this strange phenomenon, which I just found out last night. To wit:
“When an image has the same name as the image that was there before sometime the browser thinks it has already seen it and copies the old version from the hard drive rather than downloading the new one from the web page.”
I apologize for this, and we are working on it. It is true that some people can’t see it yet, no matter how many times they scroll up and down. So please be patient and hopefully the glitch will be fixed soon.
Posted by Diana Jewell on 10/10 at 09:38 AM
you guys this is her new pic!! it’s just a bit longer!! c’mon grannies get your glasses on!!!
louann
Posted by lainla3 on 10/10 at 09:46 AM
Oops, I meant go figure-
hate it when i do that, drives me crazy---i’m just glad there was an explanation cause when you get to my age and you’re not seeing something everyone else seems to see, it’s extra scary
Posted by sallee on 10/10 at 09:47 AM
Know what you mean!
Rest assured, there is an explanation. And, Louann, it has nothing to do with glasses! Trust me—for some, the picture does not appear. It is stuck in a time warp. I’ve been reading up on this, and I wonder if cleaning out your browser cache would help. But don’t take my word for it!!! I’m not your best techie around.

To All,
Thank you very much for the wonderful compliments, ie. younger & Hotter!! Wow! Re: questions - I don’t know if I will let it grow. If I could look like Maureen’s, I might, but my main problem is patience. I let it go for a while and then all of the sudden it has to be cut. I think I drive my hairdresser crazy. But I do believe I may give it a try. Re: Weight - just as fat as ever. Menopause is a killer. Black does wonderful things. I walk, ride bike, some weight lifting, but I still love to bake. As I have heard, I am not fat, I am just too short!! Again, thanks to each one of you. I think this would have been very difficult if I hadn’t had the support of all the gray girls! - Deb B
Posted by Debbie on 10/10 at 11:53 AM
Hi, all. Thanks for the compliments. Next time I’ll wait longer before I send in a pic! I didn’t want to cause confusion.
I was just happy my looks had “softened up” with 2 months of growth since the buzz!

hey deb
the whole menopause thing will pass and then the weight will come off..that is what happened to me...i started early and gained slowly but surely almost 30 lbs..then in the last 3 years it has all come off and a little more..whooo hooo!! thanks too with all the walking up and down the hills in the neighborhood!! so now i am topping it all off with the hair!! new clothes and new hair do!! as soon as i have fully transitioned i will do the makeup thing..although i am a minimalist when it comes to makeup…
enjoy your new silve side!!
louann
Posted by lainla3 on 10/10 at 02:13 PM
Louann,
Thanks for the words of encouragement. I made it thru menopause and didn’t even know that I had since I had a hysterectomy when I was only 29. So a blood test showed I went all thru it and was lucky enough not to have some of the side effects that some women experience. But this weight has really been a struggle, not coming off like it used to. I am like you, in that I have never really worn any makeup other than doing my eyes up and maybe a little blush. I have never put anything else on my face for the concern that it would break out and be a mess, although I have always been faithful with using a moisturizer. But I have changed eye shadow colors since I now have gray hair. I am using gray eye shadows and really like the softness and subtleness of them. It’s so nice to talk with women who know what you’re going thru. Thanks again - Deb B

Is anyone else having difficulties with GGLG site today?? I can’t find 2nd semester newbies.
Posted by lulubell on 10/11 at 06:53 AM
Hi Lulubell - Yes, lots of crazy things happening for me on the site. This page is even acting strange. Maybe they are updating or something? I know absolutely nothing about such things, though. :o) Hope you are having a nice holiday weekend!
Posted by greeneyes on 10/11 at 07:44 AM
Thanks for the feedback greeneyes, and I will most certainly have a nice holiday! Enjoy your weekend!
Posted by lulubell on 10/11 at 08:21 AM
Hi guys—NO we are definitely not updating! I put a Technical Difficulties post up on the homepage to explain it (as well as it can be explained!). But I’ve been looking for places to post where others of you might go. Aha—found this.
Seems the host I’ve been using decided without notice to switch servers in the middle of the night. Things disappeared. Some things cannot be accessed. Now, they are all “in there.” But unfortunately, the host did not work out the “bugs” involved in a major move. This is definitely NOT our doing. We are on the case, and hope to have it running smoothly as soon as we can. But we are definitely over a barrel with this webhost. Waiting to hear from them as we speak.
This is outrageous, maddening, and I have steam coming out of my ears, you can be sure.
All I can ask is that you have patience, stay with us, and find good places to post. Like here, Wild Gray Women, and various other places on the site under the Great Gray and Gray Today tabs. The Café Gray is not even operating properly. I apologize, but feel rather victimized at the same time!
Posted by Diana Jewell on 10/11 at 10:46 AM
We completely understand Diana, you could never lose me that’s for sure, or the others!
Stuff happens, I am forever saying “I HATE COMPUTERS”! Not really, just love to yell it out load sometimes.
Posted by lulubell on 10/11 at 10:54 AM
Thanks, Lulubell—that’s encouraging. I used to scream that at my computer, too. And that was BEFORE I entered the wild world of hosts and servers. I think I hate them more!
Posted by Diana Jewell on 10/11 at 10:59 AM
Hi Diana,
Thanks for the update--as a former network admin I do understand and empathize!!
Beth
Posted by beth on 10/11 at 11:37 AM
Diana - totally understandable, even though I don’t understand! :o) Too high tech for me. But no worries! You know how patient we grays and grays-in-waiting have learned to be. :o) At least it happened on the weekend when it seems the site can be quieter as people are probably enjoying more family time and being out on the town, etc…
Try to have a good weekend in spite of your challenges. Thanks for doing so much for all of us and giving so much of your time. We all appreciate what you do for us! :o)

Bad time for this site to go toes up. Ruth, I forgot to write down the place we’re meeting tomorrow and cannot get to my Private Messages. Please, if you read this post which location we are meeting at. If I don’t hear from you I will be wondering around all the Panera’s in Highlands Ranch.

Ana,
Not sure if you will get this but I hope so!: As I type in the address and phone number, I am not sure what is allowed on the site, and I am not seeing everything I typed yesterday either...It is the Panera Bread on University, South of C470. There is only one Panera Bread in Highlands Ranch! You can Google Colorado Panera for the phone number and address if it does not appear here in my post.

Day 2 of “technical difficulties.” Here is what’s happened SO FAR. The webhost answered our inquiry (3 hours later) saying, “We’ve been to your site, it seems to be operating fine.” My web designer replied with all the specifics, codes, etc. of why it was NOT acting “fine” and was informed a response could now take up to 24 hours!
Apparently, they have bigger fish to fry as their mail service is down across the entire system. Yeah, I’m not getting notifications of postings or any mail you might send me, either. This is also the second day for that.
We are currently investigating switching to a new webhost. Naturally, that will require doing it, then testing it, so we may still be a few days away from having this site working right. We may even have to shut the site down to finish this.
So, keep checking here—the only place I know how to update everybody. Sorry, again. . . NOT a happy camper.

Diana, this page is like split in half on my screen. Pics and postings on the right and the overhead menu on the left but blank underneath. Just letting you know in case you need to pass it along to the web fixer-upers. So we’ll all hang tough.
Posted by sallee on 10/13 at 07:46 AM
Heee, I will respond about the “page split in half”, but I know you guys will only see it in your email notifications. Strange things happen when you go behind the OZ curtain. Even I don’t know what’s going to go screwy next!
My page isn’t split, but the top header tabs seem to have gone missing. Oh well, all in a day’s work!! Let’s all look at this like a visit to the Fun House with funny mirrors. That’s the only way I can—and keep my sanity! Love ya all.

And there’s still a bit more fixin’ to do.
Posted by Diana Jewell on 10/13 at 06:11 PM
Helen,
Boy, am I glad that I didn’t use anything for the root touch up. I had it and thought about it, but then I wanted to get thru this as soon as I could and I have not been committed during the last few months that I felt like I needed to hide them. As I said in the other comment section, I am really bad about trimming my own hair over the bathroom sink and I did some trimming again just before I went to get the last color cut off. I was just too impatient. And I don’t know about other people, I have a lot of hair and I am constantly shedding, now it is much easier to see where I have been sitting. It’s like having a cat on the furniture! The white and gray colors show up so much easier. - Deb B
Posted by Debbie on 10/14 at 04:15 AM
Good morning to all,
I have to tell you a story from yesterday. I have to say first it’s a little disconcerting. I started a class this week on traditional rug hooking. I was told now that I can be referred to as a “hooker”! But anyway… I went to the Salvation Army yesterday to look for 100% wool to use for rug hooking. I found 4 skirts of colors that I thought I could use in the future. The Salvation Army has certain days when you can receive discounts for specific items and I was not sure I was there on a day when there was a discount. So I went up to check out with my newly found skirts and when I got up to the register, the girl at the register was looking at me and sort of stuttered a little and asked if she should be giving me a discount today. I asked what kind of a discount and she stuttered again looking, I could tell, at my hair and said that if I was 55, I could get half off for my purchases. She was really not sure just how old I was. I told her that I am still 54 for a few months and tried to make her a little more comfortable with joking with her and then she explained that if I come on Wednesdays every week I could have half off on clothing even though I wasn’t 55. I paid for my skirts and then she said she would see me next Wednesday.
This was funny to me. I have never before been asked if I was old enough to receive a discount! As I said this was a little disconcerting, but I have to say I feel a real peace with having my hair the color that is is naturally. I am glad to be a real 100% gray just as my new 100% wool gray skirt!! - Deb B
