Your hair can be your greatest accessory

If you think of your hair as an accessory, you can have a lot of fun with it. Try things you never have before. Hairpieces are a great way to add drama and dash. I recently bought a long ponytail (yes, streaked with gray!), and it’s a great change of pace. You can find more fun stuff at www.hairextensions.com. And maybe, one day, I'll put a pink streak in my hair with a product called Streekers from ColorMark. This might be just the thing if I'm going someplace really hip. Originally designed to color roots with mascara-wand ease, ColorMark's touch-ups have a great real-color range. If you're still into hiding your roots, they're perfect. But if you go to the site, click on Color, you'll find a link at the very bottom of the page to Streekers Wild Weekend. Click on that, and you'll find a lot of crazy, fun colors. www.colormarkpro.com Just remember, none of us are locked into being "gray-haired old ladies." We can play with it all we want to.

Silver Streak

This just in – Mark your calendars because some great Goody headbands are bowing exclusively in Target stores on July 1st. Two brand new collections that are sure to put a little sizzle in your summer. And the best news is, everything hovers around the $5.99 mark, plus or minus. The first collection, Precious Metals, puts a whole new spin on headbands, shaping them in twisted, braided, and textured ways. It’s not your old preppy headband anymore. Especially stylish, the new double-band headbands, some laced with leather (like the strap of a certain status bag we could name.) The skinny metallics can be teamed up, 2, 3 at a time, and you can mix your metals or go silver all the way. One of my favorites is called “Whisked Away,” because, you guessed it, the little bands of metal look as skinny as a whisk. Completing the collection: ponytailers and modern art barrettes in our kind of silver. At long last!

Summer of Love. . . My Headband!

Goody’s second summer collection is called Paisleydelic, and if you want to add a splash of brights to your grays and whites, it’s just the thing. You’ll find the wildest prints and the boldest colors in playful hair accessories reminiscent of a vintage style. The thing I like best about the bands – some are sheer fabrics that can scrunch narrow or wide (depending on the length of your roots, natch!) Others are more like soft satin ribbons, still others are formed in perfect paisleydelic prints. Far out!

Speaking of Accessories. . .

A lot of women have mentioned that they have trouble finding hair accessories to “go with” their gray, silver or salt-and-pepper hair. You know, those clips, clamps, and pony tail bands we all love? You can find them, if you look hard enough, in major cities. And, usually, they’re not cheap! But now, Goody comes to the rescue! You know Goody – you’ve seen their hair holders everywhere – in drug stores, food stores, mass market retailers. Read: affordable! First of all, they’ve finally perfected gray bobby pins. GRAY. Not the usual offerings of brown, black or white. They have two shades of it, in fact. Their Bobbies are a deeper gray, and their Ouchless bobbies with ComforTips are in a somewhat lighter shade. But now, the really nice news is they have some glamour-rama things too, to add sparkle and life to your hair. It’s their Goody Luxe™ collection, using a variety of metals, colored gems, and real crystals. Some of the stones are tinted a nice, warm gray. Everything comes in four styles, ranging from classic to modern: Deco, Antique, Vine and Starburst. You can find these dazzlers in ponytail holders, barrettes and claw clips. Don’t save these just for evening. They can do wonders on a dull-hair-day. Good for Goody!
